I'm sure there's probably a thread on this somewhere but, honestly I'm too tired to check so my apologies.

I'm looking for a reasonably priced dentist but more importantly one with good reviews. The last time i had dental work done i went to Lovett dental and spent $1,000 on a root canal and crown. I did have dental insurance with delta dental but I'm not sure if that was overpriced or fair considering. For my sake i hope it was overpriced because i sure don't want to spend that much again if i do indeed need another root canal.

Besides the obvious reasons for wanting a a good dentist, last year in November i broke my jaw on both sides and had small plates inserted. My doctor told me i would need dental work; on top of the couple cavities i was aware of prior, but to make sure i did my research and find a good dentist. I already could have used braces prior to breaking my jaw but even more so now.

On top of this i like a lot of people don't like the dentist. I already lost a tooth in the back because i waited too long, and i'm kicking myself for waiting again. Any suggestions on a good, nice dentist? :)

I'm near the energy corridor on the west side, but I don't mind driving at all.

Our resident ClutchFans dentist of course - rezdawg.

Great staff and won't stick you for a bunch of extras you don't need.

Thanks for the suggestions. Can anyone speak to a $1,000 root canal with a crown and dental insurance being overpriced?

I've gone too him too. Went in just a couple of weeks ago to have him re-attach a crown that came off. Ask him directly about a Clutchfans discount (don't bother with the staff because they don't know what it is).

They didn't seem to want to rip me off with unnecessary procedures, but I've only been once.

Great dentist, went to him for 10+ years before I had to move to Cleveland. His whole team is great - receptionist, hygienist, assistant - all are great and friendly! I would highly recommend going to him.

Rezdawg would probably be a better for information than me since he's a direct source so hopefully he sees your post but I'll try to help.

My fiancée is a dentist at Highlands Dental Group over in Katy. She said the cost of the root canal/crown you were quoted depends on several factors: were you referred out to a specialist; is it a retreatment; what material will be used on crown; will the general dentist or endodontist be performing the root canal; HMO or PPO

Sorry if that wasn't much help. If you had all of that information I can ask her and maybe she can give a better estimate.

    Thanks for the recs fellas.

I have an office in Katy. It's called Dental Art. The other office is in west Houston, as a couple guys pointed out. However, there are plenty of options as far as locations. Like Dr. Funk24 mentioned, Highland Dental Group is solid as well, from what I have heard. If you are near the energy corridor, just google "Best Dentist" and you'll get a pop up of a bunch of dental offices with Google Reviews. Read through some of them and then see what works best for you.

As far as your insurance...seems pretty normal. Typically, a root canal is covered at 50-80%...and a crown is covered at 50%. Also, if you have insurance, then there is going to be very little variance in price between dentists, because they are all abiding by the prices set by the insurance company. Therefore, whatever you got charged is probably what you would have been charged anywhere else.

Thanks. This actually makes sense when I think about it.

With regards to my jaw surgery last year and the 2 plates I had placed, do you see that being an issue with future dental work like root canal or braces? I'm embarrassed to say that I'm 30 and am still contemplating getting them . My age has been holding me back from getting them. Growing up we could never afford them, and Medicaid wouldn't approve me.

We have patients of all ages getting braces, invisalign, 6 month smiles, etc...all different types of orthodontics. Nothing to be embarrassed about, it's very common. As far as the plates being an issue, I wouldnt think so. Depends on where they are placed, but very rarely would it have any bearing on other dental procedures, so you should be good to go in that regard.
