I haven't been to a IHop or Denny`s in years, there kind of like the Chili`s and Applebee`s of breakfast. There is a waffle house by my work, and I have gone there a few times and its decent, I love the grits and not a ton of places can cook them right, it's a super simple menu and the coffee is pretty good. I wont go out of my way to eat there but if the timing is right, I am down
None of them have great food. Waffle House gets my vote because of how many great memories and stories I have from there. I have seen or done everything at Waffle House. Now in my 40's - I would likely stop at IHOP because it is a little slower and more laid back ....... actually that is a lie, for breakfast during the week I would stop at Honky Bucket (Cracker Barrell). Up here in Chicago there are a lot of very good breakfast spots, because they are a very popular meeting spot for groups of women.... I am usually the only male customer if I go without my wife but the quality and food tends to be worth the extra $5 a meal.
Once upon a time, forever ago, there was a certain Denny's that was a sort of hangout for a couple groups of friends. Almost no one actually ate there, but it was open 24/7, it had unlimited coffee and water, and it was a mostly chill place to study or for people to gather while figuring out where to go from there. I think I've been to a Denny's once or twice in the last decade. I think I've been to an IHOP maybe 3 times in my entire life....so I know next to nothing about it. Waffle House......well, it's for this. IYKYK
Honestly, all three are solid choices for different moods. Dennys is great if you want a classic diner vibe. IHOP’s pancakes are unbeatable, especially if you’re craving something sweet. Waffle House, though... if you're looking for that late-night, greasy comfort food, it’s the go-to.
Kinda had no business being at Denny's unless you were crazy hungry and wasted enough to go. Loud drunk chicks. Hobos looking for change. Random fights out of nowhere. Now they have fancy Korean restaurants with comfort food and fried chicken open till one or two. I stopped going to IHOP when I cut back on carbs. That ayce pancake season fattened you up like pigeon on stale popcorn. Don't have Waffle House in Cali.
Don't go to Waffle House much...every single one I saw looks sketchy af. IHOP is alright and the cleanest looking of the bunch. Dennys is alright but prices have been going up and not worth it anymore. I usually go to Frank's Grill if I'm craving some fat American food.
Never ate much at Waffle house, so gonna rank Ihop a little over Denny's. Always ended up getting omelettes/pancakes at IHOP which were huge portions. At Denny's always loved their skillets and some of the sandwiches. Their Oreo shakes were pretty OP as well. We usually ended up going at like 4am when nothing else was open after gaming all night when in college.
Making an assumption that the choices are based primarily because of their late night availability. If this is the case then I would rank them in this order, although it really does depend on the location. I've had good and bad experiences on all three of them. IHOP Waffle House Denny's (P.S.) If late night availability in not a prerequisite, I have to go with Cracker Barrel. ....... ....... .......
I think it really depends on individual locations. I have been to IHOP/WF/D locations, where I will never return. The Denny's near my old house was quite good ... as was the Waffle House. WH vis-a-vis IHOP/D has more of a breakfast menu versus a breakfast+lunch+dinner menu, so if the fam is out for dinner IHOP/D has more diner options.
All 3 are bad. Only benefit to them is hours and if I need a 2am breakfast, I know where to go...but I'm nearly 50 and haven't needed that in many years. Toasted Yolk or Another Broken Egg are far superior breakfast places.
Jim's from service to food quality stands above the competition. The 183 North location has been there since the early 70s The Oak Hill location since the 80s are testaments to how freaking good Jim's is.
Don't think I've ever been to a Jim's, but I do remember the Kip's Big Boy on Westheimer way back when I prefer a TexMex breakfast if I'm dining out. American breakfast is just too easy to do at home.
