I'll come with you to your next gig and say I lost my ability to play guitar in some sort of tragic accident.
I thought you still had one sounds like it is time for you to bring it back YOU CAN DO IT!! Rocket River I went from a high top Fade to Braids to Dreds to baldhead
I guess I should have put Dennis Miller 1st then he could have the Red and Maher could have the Blue Rocket River
Regrow that sucker & head down here, it´s the national haircut; they call it the ¨bus driver¨(colectivero).
Bill Mahr used to be entaining. I am still watching Real time with Bill Mahr once a while. But his jokes are getting old. Endless bashing on current polictics. It was intelligent the first time you heard it, but annoying if you hear it all the time. Dennis Miller, dont like him.
Sadly the Bill O'Reilly Dennis Miller thing was not tongue in cheek at all. It was more like lips to ass. It was insane. I always thought Miller above that kind of thing, and independent.
Both these guys ae no longer funny. Dennis Miller is the sadder case because he actually once was funny. That was long before his short lived NFL career. Miller's radio show right now is completely unlistenable. It's at least sort of funny when Bill O'Reilly tells a lie with a totally straight face. Bill Maher is a wuss and nobody who doesn't agree with him would ever watch him. Miller, at one time, had it. Every dog has his day- Crocketball Fan
Miller. Anyone that ever saw one of his shows where he had David Spade or Norm MacDonald as a guest would have no problem deciding this.
SM, he was hilarious before he lost his mind. I used to always catch his show on HBO. One of the first songs I downloaded from iTunes was Everybody Wants to Rule the World, by Tears For Fears. (I hated it when that was changed... first clue things were going south, imo) Miller could be absolutely brilliant, on occasion, and was very good "off the cuff," reacting to his guests, especially guys you could tell were old friends. I miss that Dennis Miller. I guess he lost his way.
Hard to separate the origial question of the poll (Who is the better comedian?) from what they both seem to currently be, which is 'over the line political talking heads'. I will try to address the original poll question first, which is 'Who is the better comedian?' Obviously this is not a question which can have an objective, factual answer, as it is all nothing but a reflection of our own personal taste and preferences. Therefore, with that in mind, my answer is Miller. However the times I ever watched Miller (back when he was primarily a comedian only, hadn't really been in movies yet, no 'The Net' with Sandra Bullock, or any of that other stuff, no MNF), I honestly never cared for him that much as a comedian. (remember, this is not a 'Who's your favorite comedian?', just who's better between Maher and Miller) He always struck me as being kind of mean-spirited. He was like this very talented jazz pianist, able to improvise wildly, always in this sort of stream-of-consciousness riffing mode which seemed designed primarily to showoff how erudite he was, how much wildly disparate knowledge was running around in his head at any given moment. The art of the extremely wild simile and metaphor was always his forte. Usually somewhat amusing, if you were able to grasp the references, but never what I would call 'very funny'. But it is clear that he was, and remains, an extremely intelligent man. As for Maher, all I can say is this: I have been an avid comedy- and comedian-watcher for years, as far back as it was really possible to be able to watch a very wide assortment of stand-up comedians on a regular basis, and I am talking the very first days of Comedy Central here, like back in the late 80's when it first started. I have seen them all, all the big-time comics, most of the little-time comics, and many most people never heard of and never will. Shows like 'Short-Attention-Span Theater', Stand-Up Stand-up', and 'Stand-Up Spotlight' were always favorites, and it's a shame that the channel decided such shows were no longer important. Anyway, from my experience as an avid comic-watcher, Maher has never been in Miller's league in any regard. Miller was an A-lister, and Maher was never anything more than a C-Lister. I can't honestly think of one funny thing I have ever seen Maher say or do. (Full disclosure: I assiduously avoid watching any of that 'Politically Incorrect' crap now. I watched it when it first started, because I thought the idea had merit, but it became clear soon enough that it was all one-note music, and tone-deaf at that. So maybe he has said something funny in the last few years, but doubt it, since he never did before when he was a mere stand-up) Anyway, as I said, I was never a fawning fan of Miller as a comedian anyway, but between him and Maher, there is not and never was any comparison. Now as for their politics, I will leave it mostly alone. To talk about their politics is really to make the discussion about ourselves and our beliefs instead of theirs - it becomes a 'which guy do you agree with' kind of thing, and I have no interest in it, in a forum such as this. In my experience, very few people these days seem capable of having civil discourse about sensitive issues such as politics and religion. I will just say this: One of the men is clearly highly intelligent, and the other, well, 'nature abhors the space between his ears'. My FAVORITE comedian is a Miller - Larry Miller. Pure genius.
nice post. although i would disagree with you when it comes to the bold...i mean, have you seen how civil and open to new ideas people are on the D&D board.
