Dennis Leary never really said that. The thing was scripted(maybe some improv). He's not a racist. The show is not about a real contest. There never was a real contest. The people on the show are all actors or playing themselves in a FICTIONAL scenario. Is every actor who's portrayed a bad guy or bigot in movie guilty of actually being a bigot? What Dennis Leary said in that movie is Satire! It wasn't his stand-up routine, but it was pre-planned scripted dialogue. It's satire, satire, satire.
Blade, You know what, until people stop comparing power by skin color we will never move forward. I mean, power is earned, and skin color is not one of the requirements. Slavery was over 137 years ago, that argument is tired. DD
What, that you are a necrophile? Also, Karo rules. Sorry the admins deleted my sig, thats not my fault.
RM95...well DUH !!! But racism is not one sided......racism sucks, no doubt about it. However, we are far to sensitive about it these days.... Too PC. DD
Slavery was over 137 years ago. The right to vote in mass didn't happen until just 38 years ago though. The right to attend equal schooling was only about eight years only before that. If you call enslaving and then opressing people 'earning power' then there is something wrong. Sadly we've seen by the video of a cop slamming a youth down onto a car, and then punching him in the face, that those with power still use it to oppress others. Again only in the last forty years has power been shared in any real way. IMO it's hard to imagine that it's possible to erase 400 years of oppression. However remarkable strides are being made, and I applaud that. But again I wasn't just speaking about the different history races have had in the country. I was talking about what's funny.
Here we go.......................... It's times like these when I wish I had something profound to say. Did I tell you guys about my neighbor?
DC Rock, I think that's where the satire part comes in. The statement was ludicrous, that it shows the ignorance of similar statements just by existing. I'm sure I don't have to explain satire to everyone, so I'll shut up.
I didnt watch the show everyone here is talking about, but my guess would be that Leary was just using irony like you said, I dont think he's racist.
I need to remember to keep up on my own thread... First of all, I didn't know it was a mockumentary! I thought it was serious, so sue me! I don't go to message boards and research every tv show that I happen to watch. It's not like I knew it was a scripted joke! I thought he was just some drunk comedian in a bar making anti-Mexican remarks on camera! And geez Nomar, why all the hostility? I swear, how could you think I have a problem with the Rocky movies when my handle is friggin' APOLLO CREED?
