Am I on ignore? Did nobody see my post? The show was set up like that. It wasn't real! It was mockumentary style. The whole show was set up. I'm surprised nobody recognized the black militant contestant from the film Chasing Amy. The contestants were comedians. It's a parody of Project Greenlight. Project Greenlight was the contest held by Matt Damon and Ben Affleck among others. Dennis Leary purposely portrayed himself in a bad light, because in Project Greenlight either Matt Damon, Ben Affleck or both came off looking bad, and it was their own project. The thing is one huge joke. There was never a real contest. If you go to the website and check the message board, there are several discussions about it.
RM95...Im not understanding your issue with comedians. If you dont like what they have to say, then dont listen to them.
I have no issue with comedians...just racists. If someone-I don't care if he's a comedian or not-says something like this, and is serious about it, then I find it racist. I'm not going to say it's ok because I have a chip on my shoulder because minorities can stereotype and get away with it. I actually love watching stand up. Franchise, I didn't ignore you, and that's why I never really called Leary a racist. I was just arguing that a comedian saying something in that kind of context (real, not satirical) then it's a little different than them saying it in their act.
Fair enough...I actually agree with you then. When Edie Murphy or Chris Rock makes a joke about white people, while it may be hysterical, it serves as a double standard...meaning you'd never hear Robin Williams or George Carlin make a black joke because it isnt politically correct. I thought it was pretty funny that LEary had the balls to do a skit like that
Carlos Mencia is freakin hilarious! He does slam everyone..he doesn't care abit for PC...neither does Carlin... and as an aside to what MadMax ended his post with, here's a bit from DM that I think applys here... and
The difference is though that comedians like Eddie Murphy and Chris Rock also make jokes about black people to, and when they make jokes it's a light-hearted joke with a ton of white people in the crowd. It's not like some black comedians who make jokes about white people that are intentionally mean-spirited and idiotic. I guarantee that if Robin Williams made a joke talking about how good black people could dance, or cook, and he presented it right, it would be funny. I've seen white comedians make "stereotypical" jokes about black people that was funny and that I didn't take seriously at all. It's just in the way that it is presented. Trust me, if George Carlin wanted to make jokes about black people he's one of the comedians I think that could do it the right way. It's not a double standard, it's just a matter of the way it is presented.
If ANY white comedian made a black joke the way black comedians make white jokes, yuo can bet dollars to donuts that Rev Al ****** would be holding a press conference the next day.
Actually I've seen white comedians make jokes about blacks, using satire. It was no big deal. Also once again there's a reason why. Whites currently hold almost all the power in the country. It's one thing for others to make fun of the guy holding and in some cases abusing the power. It's another thing when a member of the race holding most of the power, that has also enslaved another race, prevented them from going to equal schools, prevented them from obtaining jobs, and promotions once they have jobs, etc. turns around makes fun of that race. Equality about being the butts of jokes, aside it just isn't that funny when the guy on top makes fun of those that he's intentionally kept down for a few centuries. So if it's not funny you probably won't see it that much. I know those are broad characterizations and modern day stand-ups aren't the ones who did the enslaving etc. But still if the comedy generalizes then the reason why it might not be funny could also be as general. Now I agree it depends on how it's done, and I don't think it should be totally off limits. But it still won't be equal. White people ensured that things wouldn't be equal for about 400 years so it shouldn't be a surprise that some things take longer than thirty-five years to balance out.
In response to the title of the thread... I don't think so. But aren't you the one that was concerned that the "Rocky" movies were racist? Yeah. Never speak again.
ok..i didn't know that...i don't know the context..and i can see the difference if this guy is giving real commentary about what a tragedy it is a guy has a show because he's mexican...convenient, i suppose, to simply fall back and say, "hey..i'm a comedian...i'm just joking!" i may have spoken out of turn without having a full picture of the situation earlier...not the first time that has happened!
If you read the thread, it was pretty clear that he wasn't being sarcastic. In fact, I don't remember him saying that he was just being sarcastic. But if he was, it was just to cover his silly ass because he looked like a moron. You really get testy don't you. That time of month again?
Yes it is. It's that time of the month where your Mom's got to act like she's a good girl. I get pissy without that lovin'. I'm not being testy, and I don't remember the thread exactly (I tried a search, but it didn't come up). I do think Aaron Karo should be shot though.
