From an article on the Texas House debate over congressional redistricting. Rep. Phil King (R-Weatherford) is the bill's sponsor.

As King began his argument for the new congressional boundaries Monday afternoon, about 30 Democrats in the gallery donned white socks as hand puppets to mock King. Every time he spoke, the little white mouths flapped.

Could our state leaders get any more childish? Can't they maintain the dignity of their position? The "I'll take my ball and go home (to Oklahoma)" strategy was a parlimentary manuver that. While I think it was silly, at least it had a point. Putting a sock on your hand to mock a speaker is getting rediculous.

All politicians, regardless of ideology or party affiliation, are ridiculous. This is just the latest example.

LOL Tex. When Democrats act like fools, then ALL politicians are fools. When Republicans act like fools, then it is time to bash Republicans.

    I get it.

Sock puppets. Riot. I would find it funny no matter what party was responsible.

    "S' al' Right?"
    :D "S' al' Right!"

What the heck is going on in Texas? First the Democrats run away to Oklahoma, now they mock Republicans with sock puppets. I would be enraged if my elected officials acted in such a manner. What haappened to the professionalism and dignity that is part of holding elective office? These people are total morons and need to be thrown out in the next election.

What happened to not wasting MY TAX MONEY on something that has very little to do with Texas and is just something DeLay wants to strengthen his contingent in Washington? King and Perry could avoid being called puppets if they stopped acting like puppets.

My insurance rates were raised this year because Texas was in the red and now the Republicans waste nearly 2 million on this bulls***.

Since when did elected officials act with professionalism and dignity? Not in my lifetime.

You know the state has a huge deficit to deal with and the party in control is pushing a self serving redistricting plan. Now, who is acting like responsible adults here? (Answer: no one.)

You appear to be very dissatisfied with the Republican leadership and you haven't voted Democrat in at least 10 years, who do you vote for?

The Republican leadership in Texas has run away numerous times to fight redistricting when they were in the minority...the "outrageous" antics of Democracts and or Republicans in the State Legislature is nothing new to the "dignified" halls of the Capital building...Course I'm sure NOTHING like that has ever happened in good ole' Bammy...;)

As I have stated before, I cannot in good conscience call myself either a Democrat or Republican. I research the issues and the candidates and vote for the person I think is best for the job.

I think I said I had not voted for a Democrat for President in ten years and if I didn't say that, that is what I meant.

I would love to be able to vote for the Republicans, but they do not seem to want fiscal discipline or to stand up for state's rights anymore.

That is pretty stupid. I don't blame the Democrats for being pissed that Republicans are taking dumps on them, but this is pretty childish.

Just to clarify, here is what you originally posted in a different thread:

"Whatever. I am NOT a liberal, I have not voted Democrat in over a decade. I am MUCH more conservative than most of the people I encounter. This is another reason I argue this issue the way I do. "

Thanks for the clarification, however (i.e. Democrat president).

Hmmm... I'll see if I can find out more here, but if these Democrats were in the "gallery", isn't that referring to spectators? In other words, was it really 30 Representatives that did it, or 30 spectators?

Yeah, read the article. It doesn't look like it was elected officials at all. Speaking of elected officials, here's a doozy of a quotation from one:

"It's a fair map. It's been an open process," said the bill's sponsor, Rep. Phil King, R-Weatherford. "Race had nothing to do with the drawing of the district lines. Our purpose was purely political."

Oh, purely political. How exemplary. What a good use of your salary.

Completely different issue. Roe was a proper decision because of the public health disaster that banned abortions create.

I am for states rights in instances where they do not conflict with human rights.

I stand corrected. This was people in the audience. According to the article in the Dallas Star Telegram, the audience had to be admonished several times for disrupting the proceedings.
