why should durban have apologized? all he did was read an official fbi memo detailing abuses by our troops. he made a poor choice of analogies in picking nazis, commies and pol pot, but his message was true - is this what america is all about? most americans would say "no".
Brilliant rejoinder. I'm glad you took the time to read the article and reconsider your opinions in light of new facts. And people say the Enlightenment is dead...
Liberals outnumber conservatives here by at least 20-1. I'm not going to bother correcting each and every falsehood from your side. Besides, it it a fact that they sought to discard military ballots because they knew that constituency favored Bush.
No. They don't. Your usual penchant for puffed up hyperbole aside though, liberals do outnumber conservatives here. Why do you think that is? Seriously. Do you think that most Houston Rockets fans are liberals? Most Houstonians? Most sports fans? Here's my theory about the disparity between liberals and conservatives here: You guys can't argue. You can't win an honest debate on these issues. And so, like the politicians on your side, you resort to propaganda, hyperbole, fear tactics and jingoistic attacks on patriotism. If you don't like the truth, you call it a "falsehood." You have received several thoughtful replies to your obvious attempt at smearing Democrats and dishonestly suggesting that opposing war crimes equals opposing the troops -- none of which thoughtful replies your thread or you merited -- and you chose to ignore them all. You repeated the oft-repeated bogus claim that Gore tried to knock out military votes when the only overseas ballots that he tried to eliminate were the ones that ought to have been void due to election law as they were postmarked after election day or weren't postmarked at all. rimrocker proved once again that that claim was full of crap and you just repeated it. When called on it, having no defense for the truth, you called it a lie. You're a joke.
I would say the same thing about you. I wish that I had HayesStreet's patience when it comes to engaging y'all point by point, but I just don't. Now, perhaps you can point me to all these modern day Scoop Jackson Democrats.
You don't engage us at all. You throw around bogus slander and then whine about how many liberals there are here when your bumper sticker slogans are challenged with facts. I'll ask again: Why do you think liberals outnumber conservatives here? And, more to the point, why do you post in a debate and discussion forum when you flatly refuse to debate? HayesStreet isn't a conservative, by the way. I'm pretty sure he's a Democrat. Or at least he voted that way in the last two presidential elections.
I've thought about that a lot since I first came here and was surprised by the low ratio of conservatives to liberal/moderates on a Texas-based sports site. Based on demographics and voting patterns you would really expect conservatives to far outnumber liberals and moderates in the D&D. I figure that for whatever reason, early on, a solid core of liberal/moderates started posting here and this has seriously kept down the # of conservatives because they can't stand seeing their positions shredded time after time, so they stop posting or never start. I mean the only conservative on here who debates effectively is Hayes and he won't even fess up to being a conservative. Actually, that whole post could have probably have been condensed into- What Batman said.
murtha may have been universally respected, until he went JForbes on the military and starting slandering them for political profit. please, do a little actual research on the subject, and then see if you believe Murthas comments are still appropriate while the UCMJ is conducting a continuing investigation.
You crack me up, man. Murtha was clearly torn up about the war when he first announced that he felt it had been a mistake and that we had to do something to get out of it. And he only spoke publicly about it after the president repeatedly refused to meet with him about it or even answer his letters. "Political profit?" Are you freaking kidding me? Do you think the tears he choked back were fake? The willingness to impugn a guy like Jack Murtha's character is the grossest form of political cynicism since your guys put up photos of a legless war vet next to Osama Bin Laden to win an election. And I should "do a little actual research?" That's rich.
Sorry, but the Constitution trumps worship of things military. Of course it's appropriate. Just as Repubs often commented on an ongoing investigation of President Clinton by a Special Counsel, just as Repubs defended the actions in Abu Ghraib during an ongoing investigation. Just as Repubs comment on Fitzgerald's ongoing investigation. By the way, I love how Repubs throw around the word "appropriate" which I guess means only things that Repubs like.
you still have not answered the question. Murtha says marines are killing women and children "in cold blood." the UCMJ has not completed its investigation into the incident that spawned those charges, and says it views Murtha's comments as potentially prejudicial. have you no response on substance?
Just as an interesting side note. Gwayneco and I first met on a Baseball EZboard (now defunct) and that site had some political discussion and was overwhelmingly conservative. Its interesting, that the baseball fans tend toward conservatism and here at the basketball BBS there is a tendency toward liberalism. Go figure. Would be curious to check a Texans BBS to see what the typical leanings are of football fans.
I would argue that Basketball is one of the most liberal of sports... you play within a team concept but you are allowed to create and express yourself within that framework. Basketball's been described as poetry, as dance, as music (Everything from Jazz to Hip-Hop).
Well the NBA MVP for two years straight is a long hair hippie from the People's Republic of Canuckistan.
The one Democrat who doesn't hate the military and the Screamin' Screw Them Brigades are trying to take him out. http://www.nytimes.com/2006/05/19/n...&partner=rssuserland&emc=rss&pagewanted=print Once again I ask - where are the Scoop Jackson Democrats?
I just noticed that in 3 pages of post you haven't posted anything positive about the military. All you've been doing is bashing Democrats. I will happily say something positive about the military. The vast majority of people in the US military are decent hardworking people and with the exception of a very small minority the US military is an exceedingly well disciplined institution that has proven to be a positive influence in many peoples lives. The friends of mine and students that I've trained who have gone on to become officers have all become mature, thoughtful and truly officers and gentlemen / gentleladies. I've also said that US soldiers deserve our respect and admiration since they've willing taken on a dangerous but honorable duty. I respect the US military and our soldiers even if a lot of the time I disagree with the cause they are sent to. I don't think its disrespecting the soldiers to point out when some of them behave anything less than honorably as long as that assumed to be the norm. I think we should expect to hold our soldiers and the US military to high standards of decency.
