You are joking right? Webb used his imagination to write a fiction. In the context he is showing that act in a negative light, and not a positive one. If writing a piece of fiction makes someone guilty of all the things their characters do, then every book would have to be about a bunch of angels running around. It is moronic to believe that someone can't write about something other than the finer points of human existence.

Foley preyed on teens and it wasn't fiction. Foley never once portrayed his actions in a negative light.

Bush: Man-woman marriage 'must be defended'

ES MOINES, Iowa (AP) -- President Bush said the "sacred institution" of marriage between a man and a woman must be defended against what he called activist court rulings.

Bush briefly brought up the topic, unprompted, while raising money here for a Republican congressional candidate, a day after the New Jersey Supreme Court decided that same-sex couples must be given the same rights as married people.

The court left it up to the state's Legislature to decide whether to extend those rights under the structure of marriage, civil unions or something else.

The president said the ruling "raises doubts about the institution of marriage."

"I believe marriage is a union between a man and a woman," he said. "I believe it's a sacred institution that is critical to the health of our society and the well-being of families, and it must be defended."

Bush did not say how it must be defended.

I havnt checked this poll, but another interesting point is that the independent candidate in the Virginia race (who is getting 2 % in the polls) is looking to get out and endorse a candidate.

This smear may have also been used to sway her, considering how close the race is and how those two points would matter, and probably help other undecided-s as well. But that's the problem Allen probably saw in these polls... he is under 50% still, with less than two weeks to go, and usually people who have not made up their made usually break from the incumbent, unless...

...you leak Osama footage the Friday before the election (as in 2004) or, what Allen's campaign is hoping, you take passages out of context to smear your opponent hoping he has to go on the defensive for the final days and be "mired" in controversy.

Actually reading through the reader reviews on Amazon about this book all of them for the most part say that he nails Vietnam and its culture. Apparently plot is a bit thin, but everyone talks about the vivid characters and accurate depictions. Nothing about incest or sex, etc.

How could all 35 people, Publishers Weekly, The LA Times, and a bunch of other reviews I found online miss that he is a big perv?

Only Drudge, Free Republic, Right Wing News, and Stop The ACLU have carried the story that he promotes incest.

That wasn't my point if my post was the target of this comment. None of the book reviews mention anything about questionable content. The negative reviews say the book is thin on plat, a little discombobulated, and overly detailed anf factual.

Having not read this or any of his books (even knowing who this guy is, quite honestly) and not knowing the context or even if the excerpts are accurate, I am left to wonder.

As a comparison I am currently involved with the Flashman series by George MacDonald Fraser. The main characters are not real but much is historically accurate and the novels have garnered much acclaim. However, negative reviews - especially those on Amazon - often center around people not liking rape or misogyny exhibited by the rascal Harry Flashman. People often cannot look past such things.

A novel with a man putting his son's penis in his mouth would seem ripe for such criticisms or questions from reviewers.
