I have zero interest in watching another debate format like this. Too many candidates.

I do hope Marrianne Williamson sticks around. Next time she should wear her gypsy costume and bring a crystal ball.

He has a ceiling without the black vote and eventually it will kill him. On top of that, if he became the nominee the black vote wouldn't turn out for him.

good news is that the DNC will probably do a better job of screening these guys because more of this is sheer party suicide

Only if the black vote coalesces, and so far it hasn't. And given the options, it may not do so.

That is very much up in the air. Still plenty of time for Trump to do something dumb or Pete to make in-roads. Even still, would that cost him the election (i.e. the swing states?) probably not IMO.

This will probably be the eventual ticket. :D

Nobody will even bother to pronounce their names.

Winner: Warren. She didn't have any competition in yesterday debate and her top two real competitors just went down a few notches.

When the field narrows as we move to primaries it will coalesce around anyone/everyone but him. He can't win without a portion of the black vote. He just can't.

Yes, it can. Wisconsin and Pennsylvania and Ohio are lost if the black vote is suppressed.

I didn't actually watch, @Os Trigonum, but is that pretty much how you felt about it? (I was eating dinner and doing some work.)

Think they are doing at least 1 more with this field before they narrow it down.

In general the American debate format is crap, but it's REALLY crap with this many candidates.

I'd put Mayor Pete ahead of Harris a bit, but I agree that Bernie and Biden just look old and tired. Bernie's problem is that he's no longer the outsider storming the walls, everyone else has adopted his positions, so now he's just one among many

    Winners:
    Kamala
    Buttigieg

    Losers:
Marianne (not sure if she was a serious candidate)
Biden (being schooled by the guy on the very right and Kamala)
    Sanders (one trick Pony)
Yang (he had no airtime at all)
The guy on the right was too confrontational
    Everyone else was forgettable

    Combining both nights... My favorites

    Julian Castro
    Tulsi Gabbard
    Pete Buttigieg

Who will probably end up top 5

    Biden
    Sanders
    Warren
    Kamala
    Buttigieg

    Lost my support: Yang, Gillibrand

Bernie's schtick worked last time because he was a revolutionary fighting against Clinton. In a field like this he's surrounded by people who are team Bernie so it feels weird when he yells and looks at everyone around him and says "NOTHING WILL CHANGE!"

Scott Adams and Nate Silver pretty much in agreement here. I think we can call this one a wrap.

You're making the assumption that another candidate will spark and seize the black vote.

I agree it is a problem, but it is very, very early. The only "for sure" things we know right now are that Biden will eat s*** (if he hasn't already).

The margins in the MW are razor thin, but that's not where a substantial portion of black people live either. The only swing state where the black vote is really important is Florida. Georgia, North Carolina, and Virginia to a lesser extent.

I think you are totally overselling the importance of the black vote there and not giving Pete credit for the overall boost he would receive in the Midwest.

Swalwell is vomit inducing, Williamson is out of her depth, Bennet is boring, Gillibrand is annoying and uninformed, Yang is simply a whinny panderer, Kamala is a black woman and that's pretty much her platform, Pete is this races Rick Santorum, Bernie is Mr. Sound bite, I'm convinced Biden was ****ing drunk and I didn't notice Hickenlooper was on the stage until his closing remarks. Sadly, Trump would wipe the floor with any of these poor bastards

Harris isn’t very likable because she comes across as fake and insincere. That isn’t going to suddenly change. She doesn’t really stand for anything but herself.

However, her personality and legal experience as a prosecutor makes he capable of absolutely eviscerating someone that is either not quick thinking on their feet, intimidated or overwhelmed.

There is a road for victory for her, but her ceiling is really not super high. I’ll take her over the sociopath who is the sitting President, but America deserves someone better than Harris.

    In defense of Joe Biden...

The busing issue is extremely complicated and think it's ridiculous to think that anyone who opposed busing was "wrong." They turn it into "you were against busing black kids to good schools" when the issue is deeper than that. The issue causing problems for Biden was his white constituents fighting sending their white kids to "bad schools."

Now no, it's not fair that the black schools were bad. That was a state issue that was born of racism. (and still exists) It's terribly unfair. But if you think someone who says "I want a solution but I shouldn't have to throw my child's education away to solve it for YOUR child" is out of line I just disagree. Everyone wants their kids to go to the best possible school. I moved somewhere to get my kids into a good school. I would fight against any law that was going to forcibly bus my daughter to a bad school to make it fair.
