Wait a minute, you can't ask them if they have a favorite Bible verse and still have separation of church and state. Somebody call the ACLU, this will be a slam dunk.

to me, it seems that a lot of politicians use religion as a platform to get voters, and nothing else. sure, they claim to have christian "faith," etc. But does that faith impact any of their decisions? if it doesnt, then it is worthless.

I'm not going to say what someone else should believe or practice, but if someone says yeah, I'm a christian, and then doenst know any verses from the book that their whole religion is based on, it does seem a little shallow.

its like telling someone youre a musician and not having any songs memorized.

Yes, very shallow. It is very revealing that the democratic candidates do not know a single verse.

To be a Christian one has to be able to recite some verses, but did all of those candidates really call themselves Christians beforehand? If not, what's the fuss?

No, it's like telling someone you're a composer, and they ask you to play a something you've been working on, and then you pull out your guitar and say "Well here's a song..."

... and then Trader_Jorge jumps out from behind a tree and is all like "No! Technically a composer does not write 'songs' and, at any rate, should only present work in progress using a piano -- you are a fraud!"

Um, yeah, that sure is the point.

The spirit of the question was answered by most of the candidates -- they appropriately cited material from the Bible that they found personally meaningful. The only people (person) who care(s) about the semantics of "verse" are making a pathetic attempt to weaken a certain party's candidates by any means necessary.

Or do we not all recognize the tired routine of wedge-issue politics? Bleh. Boring.

In this country, there's a fine line between religion and business.

but politics and religion, they're mutually exclusive, unless you're in a muslim world.

so it's not surprising for these politicians to get *surprised*, *speechless*, when asked about religion. They are not supposed to make decisions based on faith.

but they've been spouting off about their faith throughout the whole campaign. they've created the context for this question. particularly true of edwards, obama and clinton.

Don't expect them to have the same level of religiousness with the preists and church leaders. Otherwise, none of them will be successful senators today.

Of course, if we go to the republicans we'll find the opposite like Romney. But I'd rather give my vote to the Bush twins than thsi guy.

Have you been listening to this campaign?? I read an article the other day that compared Hillary to Jimmy Carter in that way. She's been pretty vocal about reclaiming the idea of "morality" on behalf of the Democrats. Edwards and Obama have echoed those sentiments. They've all talked a ton about their faiths.

here are a few links you might find interesting:

    Well, not Max IMO.

People who are insecure in there religious viewpoints probably hang on this stuff more than someone genuinely faithful like Max.

And yes, if you rate your candidates based on their supposed "faith", you are an idiot.
