lebron, durant, chris paul.. he's not better than any of those guys even when fully healthy. what does he do that's much better than say, russell westbrook? top 10 player but i don't think he was the best player in the league even when he won an MVP

He WAS the MVP before, so he has some room to talk.

    while averaging 17, 3, 4.5 on 43% shooting.

he was really MVP by default that year because no one had a really great performance and even then Lebron should have probably won it. probably the weakest MVP year since I've been watching basketball in the mid 90s

it was actually 25, 4.1, & 7.7 on .445 shooting. good, but not best player in the league type numbers

You don't need to be the best player in the NBA to get the MVP, that has been established long long time ago.

Maybe not number 1 but I rate him as high as 4. I'd rate Durant and Harden a little bit higher than him for now. It will depend on how strong he comes back next season. That said, it's good he rested for one whole season instead of forcing to come back. Getting healed is way more important at this point of his career. If he doesn't regain his explosiveness, I bet his effectiveness will be cut in half.

Nobody here is saying Rose is the best, all they are saying is that an argument could be made for him as he is one of the best players out there. People at forgetting that he has not hit his prime just like harden hasn't. If harden has room for improvement so does rose. And Rose is better than Harden. (Before injury)

Why is this a big deal?

He's one of the top players in the league, top 5 easily and I would personally say top 3.

If you are a top 3 player in the NBA and you don't think you can be good enough to be #1.... I can't finish this sentence because that won't happen. You wouldn't be top 3 if you didn't think you can be the top dog. Heck, you wouldn't be top 10.

Do you guys honestly think Durant or Kobe or heck, Harden sit at home and think "Lebron is light years ahead of me, I'll never be as good as him"? Or are they thinking "I'm gonna work my a$$ off and train and practice and be as great and even greater than him next season."

Edit - If Rose comes back fully healthy (big if), I'll have him after Lebron and Durant.

True, but do you have to be disconnected from reality?

You're talking in future tense. Sure, he should believe he can be the best. But that was not the question.

He could say a lot of things. Morley always credits other GMs as being the best in the league (Presti, Kupchak) and displays, you know, humility and what not? Even though Tuesdays With Morrie puts those dudes in the shade

Wasn't Rose a humble guy, this doesn't sound like him - especially the third person reference. Just yesterday I told my friend who showed me the commercial with him & Kobe playing NBA2k12 that Rose was the opposite of Kobe and it wasn't really in his nature to brag like that. Guess that's why the commercial works, but back to this answer: I hope it's taken out of context and he's not going to get a big ego like 99% of the league. People saying he could not respond in any other way, that's just not true. You can just say you don't know, there's too many great players out there to just name one.

I don't even think Rose is top 3 at his own position right now (CP3, Parker, Westbrook). Would you really rather have him than any of those guys?

And a big LOL to posting 'highlights' of that 2011 ECF series, where Rose shot 42-120 (35%) for the series. THIRTY FIVE PERCENT.
