That is one weird lineup, something you would see in a fantasy league. It will be interesting to see how it plays out in reality, because I just don't see the basketball logic behind it.
Well we will see in the first half of the season. If they can healthy they can contend for that 7th spot, if not they are likely to be left out of the playoffs. Dirk cannot play 82 games as of now barring miracles.

Well, this board had plenty of delusional statement of its own last season. Greg Smith was better than Cousins, Asik was better than Dwight, and the Rockets were clearly better than every East team other than the Heat. So, who cares. It's all a spin job, depending on where your team is at. Fan stands for fanatic.
I agree that it looks like a fantasy team line up. All offense and very little defense. Reminds me of the Suns team a few seasons back when they were just looking to outscore the opponent before the 4th quarter started to make them give up lol. I'll always respect Dirk for the qualities he's got as an All Star calibre player, but he's really getting on in years and his on/off with injuries last season doesn't help. I see them fighting for the 7-8 spot, but unlikely to get out the first round if they even make it. IT'S GOING TO BE A TOUGH WEST THIS SEASON !
I could see them going on a run at some point in the season but ultimately that team is first round fodder at best. Reminds me a bit of the Nuggets of the last couple of years or the Sixers of a couple of years ago that put together nice regular seasons.
During the offseason, there isn't much to do except to be excited about the new players that your team is bringing in and dream about how good they will be when the season starts. If I was a Mavericks fan, I would be excited about the scoring ability of Monta Ellis, hopeful that Dirk will return to play for more of the season at a high level and that Calderon will provide great passes to set up both Ellis and Dirk to make them even better. As a Rockets fan, I can't see anyone on that team playing anything better than decent defense (Dalembert) and can't wait to watch them struggle in mediocrity for years to come with the contracts given to a 31 year old Calderon and an inefficient Ellis. Such is the nature of being a sports fan!

Guys this is coming from the same fanbase (& local media) who thought back in 2011/2012 that Roddy B. was such a great trade asset that the Mavs were going to be able to trade for Dwight Howard (before he waived his opt out) and then later Chris Paul... Yes.... they really were gloating for weeks.... even months on the radio about how the Mavs were going to acquire either Howard or Paul with Roddy B as a the primary trade asset in the deal.
With tongue planted firmly in cheek, my response is thus: Oh yes they will! In fact ol' Sharktank was on ESPN radio again yesterday patting himself on the back for assembling his latest collection of deck chairs because you see, EVERYONE is forgetting about Dirk. Dirk will be the Mavericks' savior in the 2013-14 season because he's not done yet. And don't forget that Rick Carlisle is one of the TOP coaches I the NBA - a coach with the magic touch who by his very presence can instantly transform Sam Dalembert into a reasonable facsimile of Tyson Chandler - why he'll even have him caring about basketball before you know it. And because Carlisle has a psychology degree, only he has the tools to reshape the mind of Monte Ellis so that he will actually start passing the ball and actually play that thing called defense. When that is done, he'll wave his coaching wand over Jose Calderon and transform him into a top-flight defensive stopper. Go ahead and laugh now all you haters in Houston. We'll see who gets the last laugh when the Mavericks grab that 8th playoff spot and make it their own.

Dalembert should be able to maybe, kinda, sorta defend the rim and ... not trip when he runs up the floor. Don't blame the Mavs, too much. There is no one else. He's an 11-year NBA product of Seton Hall out of Port-Au-Prince, Haiti. This guy has made more than $80 million in his career, and at this point he has to feel like he has won the lottery 80 times over. Don't expect much, because God knows he doesn't.
It's almost like last years team but maybe worse. I see Calderon as a good pick up but monte is just like mayo last year really. I think they actually downgraded with Samuel. It's a good squad though. It's awefully old though. I honestly wish we had Vince carter. He would be a nice vet pickup if he came for cheap

All fans are equally as bad. Each fan base has its assholes. Houston is no different than Dallas and San Antonio. Bashing a team for their play or off season moves is fair, but bashing a fan base based on some encounter you had with a single fan is just ignorant. I have had bad experiences with all the teams around here and I don't judge an entire fan base based on that select few.
