How many times has delfino launched an ill-advised shot at the WORST possible time in crucial sequences. I don't care if he gets it in or not, I hate hate players like that. We still owe john starks a debt of gratitude for our first championship because of that mentality. He's a shooter and has confidence in his shot, I get it. It doesn't mean he has to jack up a shot with 2 hands in his face everytime he gets the ball. If the coaching staff were awake during games they might realize this is not a good mentality. Does the best player on our team take that many stupid shots? No. So what pedigree does carlos have to think he's better than the beard?

Not a very interesting interview, but I guess a few Houstonians might like Delfino's enthusiasm about your city

In your first season in Houston, what do you think about the city? How have the people treated you?
-The city's top notch. For the previous nine years I'd been playing in cold cities, up to -4°F (Detroit, Toronto, Moscow, Milwaukee). When I first came to Houston, the first thing I noticed was the heat. It was a very nice change. There are lots of Hispanics, people are passionate about sports, and that always helps. It was also a different season for me, because I arrived here with my newborn twins and had to adapt to something different. I managed it with the help of Luis (Scola), who told me where I should live, what areas to avoid. And in the Western Conference there's a bit more talent and the competition is a lot closer.

"While I was healthy, I helped out as best as I could. This year I had no major injuries, but lately I've had minor pulls and little things. But I am happy. I think the only thing in which I have regressed is in my minutes, which is logical given that I am coming off the bench."

With respect to previous seasons, this regular season you averaged less rebounds (3,3 per game) and assists (2), but more points (10,6) and a higher shooting percentage. How has your game in the NBA changed these days?
-I ignore the scoring part because it doesn't make a difference to me. I like to play the most complete game I can. And this year I enjoyed doing that the most, because I got to play the 2, the 3 and even long stretches at the 4, which I hadn't done in the NBA. I like playing the 2 the best.

During your time off due to concussion (between November 2012 and January 2011), did you think you might never play again?
-Yes I did. When I hurt myself and I was told I would be out for a while, and time began to pass and I wasn't coming back, I thought about it. I could see things weren't getting better and became very pessimistic. It helped to go back to Argentina, to spend the holidays with my family and to stop thinking about getting back on the court as soon as possible. When I did return, I felt like I was starting from scratch. Before that, in case I couldn't return, I was already thinking about what I could do away from basketball, about not playing any longer and seeing what would happen. Some injuries are no joke. At that point I couldn't see a way out.

How has the NBA changed you in these eight seasons?
-A lot. I still have a long way to go, but when I was 22, 23 years old I'd see a 30, 31 year old player and think: "This guy's old." Now I get to be the 30 year old guy and I think "I'm not old." I prefer the player I am now than the one I was at 21 or 22 years old.

What do you think about the other Argentines this season?
-I think Pablo (Prigioni of the New York Knicks) must be the happiest, because in his first season he lived a little bit of everything. He started off playing full steam, then went to playing less, and finished off the regular season as a starter in the last ten to fifteen games. Let's hope his injury is nothing major. He takes such good care of himself he can easily play for another three years. Luis (Scola) had a good season, but it's been overshadowed by his team (Phoenix). It's what happens when you're not in the right place. He was very happy in Houston and the fans liked him a lot, but due to the circumstances he had to leave. And Manu had an injury-riddled season. But he's still got the same talent he's always had. I expect nothing but great basketball from him and San Antonio in the Playoffs.

What things can the (Argentine) National Basketball League take from the NBA in order to grow, keeping in mind huge difference between both leagues?
-I'm not sure I'm the right person to talk about this, because I only played in the first division for two months... The infrastructure is the first thing you notice. When the quality of transportation is not adequate, when you arrive at the stadium and can't be sure if the game will be played because there might be power outages, or because it's raining and there are leaks, or because it's too hot and there is no air conditioning, or because it's too cold and there is no heating, the sport cannot be developed adequately. And the League has been suffering from that. Some teams are promoted to the first division and then do not have the budget to put together a competitive team. I know there is talk of a lot of changes coming up, such as eliminating the relegation system, which I completely disagree with because that completely kills competition, since there is no risk for some teams. In my opinion, there are many foreign players in the league, but not the kind that makes a big difference. There could just as easily be a local player in their place. I would reduce the maximum number of foreign players per team to one, or two at most. Also, having a bigger stadium in which not only basketball is played always helps. It's a risk that has to be taken, in order to bring in the fans and to make basketball grow. I don't think we have taken full advantage of everything the national team has done in the great decade we have had. People watch the national team, but not our league. I don't think basketball is the second most popular sport in the country.

Which is it?
-I think in Argentina racing is far more popular. And right now people are following tennis more than basketball. Personally, that hurts me.

Will you play in the Americas Tournament?
-Yes. Provided the kids let me... I want to play and always said that playing for the national team is the best thing. Whenever I missed it, it has been due to physical impediments. It will be an extremely tough tournament. The good thing is that there will be more spots to qualify through, since the United States is not playing.

Can we still call this the "Golden Generation" as long as there are still players who won gold in Athens?
-Yes, but there's less of us each time... When the team starts losing parts, when the team members one by one stop being part of the group, it hurts. We love this team, and we want everyone to be there every time the "Golden Generation" is pictured. Due both off and on court reasons. But basketball changes, and what's happening is a biological matter.

Are there young alternatives?
-They will start appearing with time. We will notice when we see them on the court. And we cannot expect another Golden Generation to appear. Whatever will be will be.

What can you say about Delfino's future?
-I will keep playing as long as my body allows me. And I will always want to be in the national team. We'll see how long they'll keep calling me up.
