QFT I really, really, REALLY do not hope Deke is out. Screw his ability to play - I just really do not want him to win a ring (if the Rockets do it this year) on his back. He deserves so much better than this. Deke is a legend. He's 2nd in blocks behind the best Center to ever play the game - Olajuwon. He is a world-class locker room leader. He is a source of inspiration. I seriously hope that it isn't as serious as it looked in the 2nd quarter when he went down. If it is, and the Rockets win the rock in - hell, even in the next 5 years - Deke needs an honorary ring as a Houston Rocket. Or maybe I'm just too drunk for this. I'm sure the Rockets are as shaken up as we all are - which is throwing their game off. They came out strong in the 3rd so I'm sure Deke gave them some words of advice. *****. Deke - .... *****... .... We will, as fans, pretend you are out there doing what the foul-wagon can't.
It looked like a grapefruit was on his knee. I wanted to vomit. Blazers going with both Bigs on the floor at the same time once Deke went out was in very poor taste and sportsmanship imo. However, I know Deke will be there cheering his guys on until the end no matter what shape he's in. And that may be just enough to get us over the hump. That's more than I can say about *someone*
His career might be over. Deke fought to the end...like the warrior that he is. I will always repsect Mount Mutombo.
Anyone see this on ESPN? http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/playoffs/2009/news/story?id=4087774 Updated: April 21, 2009, 11:44 PM ET Mutombo suffers left knee strain PORTLAND, Ore. -- Houston Rockets reserve center Dikembe Mutombo injured his left knee in Tuesday night's playoff game against the Trail Blazers and left the court on a stretcher. Mutombo appeared to get tangled with Portland center Greg Oden and came down hard on the leg late in the first quarter of Game 2. Mutombo stayed prone on the court under the Blazers' basket for several moments before he was taken from the court. A preliminary examination revealed a knee strain and he was ruled out the rest of the game. Mutombo played 18 minutes in Game 1 of the series and had nine rebounds. The Rockets won the opener, 108-81.
