Don't you know his career record would be average down everytime he plays for a few minutes?
I guess he would be enjoy his retired life with player salary. ;) :D

Deke is close 0 at scoring,

    Deke has no development whatsoever,

Better to play Scoal and Landry,

I do see him play regular mins at playoff,

Deke is a backup, in case Yao cannot play the game at regular season.

    Deke is great player.

I swear some of you guys look for anything to complain about....

He looks pretty happy to me on the bench. He is always up cheering and waiving the towel and looks like he is having genuine fun.

No doubt he s a great mentor for our players, especially our bigs and a great elder statesman in the locker room.

"I'm not concerned, but I know I have to back him off some," Rockets coach Rick Adelman said. "He kind of thinks that. But then (Wednesday) I was going to take him out in the first quarter and he said, 'No, I feel good, I feel good.' Against some of these teams that we're playing, I really need to think about getting (Dikembe Mutombo) in there."

If RA knew Chiese culture better, he would have forced Yao to sit down instead of following Yao's "I feel good" talk.

Ya, that's kinda true. In Chinese culture you don't ever say can't do or no. You always just nod and say sure I can do it. Even if you can't do it.

For sure. I'm still not convinced Ewing did anything for Yao except tell him where the best strip clubs were.

Basketball is very hard on a 41 year-old body. When you count the games, practice, and staying in NBA shape, there is no time for his joints and tendons to recuperate. I would be surprised if Deke would want to play 10 minutes a game. My guess is that he is probably very happy with his playing time. Once the playoffs arrive it’s a different story though.

Deke can still contribute in 10-15 min play time if necessary (after Scola or Landry as the young ones should get more chances). I would like to see Deke blocking some shots against big centers like Shaq or Bynum when Yao take some rest during game time. I am not confident Scola or Landry or even Hayes can be effective against big, strong centers. I would also consider putting Deke in court to "provide" some lessons ;) to arrogant players such as Devin Harris (Dallas).

If I were Deke, I'd still want to play some to make a contribution towards a championship. Why not? Every NBA player wants to play.

aren't we saving him for the playoffs?

we'll definately need his defense then. play him alongside Yao for certain situations.

If he doesn't get any playing time now, what makes you think Adelman will play him in the playoffs?

Deke almost disgusted after last seasons first round exit. He said that as much of a contribution that he made during the regular season that he should have gotten more minutes during the playoffs. He was going to retire but it was the JVG firing and the hiring of Rick Adleman that convinced him to stay. He believed this team had a chance to go all the way and it would be his last chance at a ring. He almost didn't come back because they also cut his pay and he wasn't happy about that and almost decided to retire again.

In the final analysis, it was the strength of the team on paper and the Rick Adleman system that convinced him to stay.

He can't be happy without playing time.

    He sits.

    He watches free games.

He ogles at all the pretty women.

He gets paid millions doing these things.

Instead of feeling sorry for him, I feel sorry about myself with tears in eyes. :p

Saving Deke for playoffs makes sense to me. Deke is ready every night. I don't think he need much practices to block or rebound. This old man needs only a pair of healthy legs in playoffs.

i still can't believe deke dint get into the game vs. the hawks.... we were up 30 and put in players for trash time and deke still didn't get into the game... i personally was a bit upset and when they showed his face while he was on the bench... he dint seem very happy, but being the humble guy that he is, he was still cheering every step of the way

gotta love the guy :) :)

My guess is that Adelman wanted to see his young guys get more runs, especially Landry and Hayes together since that may be a lineup Adelman might use against smaller teams.

It's puzzling why Deke isn't getting even garbage time but we have bigger things to worry about then that.

Insurance for what? Holding his end of the bench down?
