This is a very fair offer; we should'nt offer a guy his age any more than the vets min.

I love Deke, but if he is offered more elsewhere or decides the money isn't enough for him to keep playing basketball that's up to him; it doesn't change my opinion of him either way.

But this is a fair deal; so take it or leave it, Deke...

He needs to retire anyways. I love what the guy gave us, but it's time to turn it in.

Les already gave Deke about $5 million for his hospital. He gave $2 million one year and $3 million another year. The Knicks gave him money I believe about $10 million for it so did the Maloofs.

If you give money for the hospital it simply is not deferred salary. And members keep acting like the NBA cares and also like Mutombo skims off it, simply not true.

That's what I"ve been trying to tell these guys! 501-3C's are legitimate non profit organizations and are treated as the gov't as such. Deke, can't skim this money anymore than the Head of UNICEF could skim money off. So it's just a charitable contribution to the building of a hospital.

Yao, Tsakalidis, Jackie Butler, Mutombo, would make the WORST relay team in the league, gee whiz...

I'd rather throw Butler in at the backup C than Tsakalidis. Butler has some potential to develop while Tsakalidis is just what he is at this point. Tsakalidis is a free agent himself and Rockets have shown little to no interest bringing him back so he might be good as gone.

Mutombo might surprise and sign with another team but I'm guessing Mutombo would not want relocate again, move his family and all that so I think either he'll sit on the offer and hope there's a spot for him later or just retire

That's because he did not get much playing time in that series with the Jazz. That's one of the mistakes JVG made. Deke played really well against the Jazz during season games. He would have made an impact had he played more.

I totally agree with all of that. I love Deke, but the Rockets don't really need him considering where the roster is at. If he signs great and if not, that's fine, too. It's kinda dumb for him to be insulted by the offer... what's he expect, Adonal Foyle money? :D

I think the Rockets offered the vets min out of courtesy, but are actually hoping that he does not accept the offer.

They need him, but they have spent way too much money and need some flexibility.

In this video Morey says he wants to sign Deke or failing that another vet C. It doesn't sound like they have any confidence in Butler.

Of course they don't have any confidence in Butler. There is a reason that he was buried on the Spurs bench and didn't see any playing time.

Actually, the Spurs liked Butler but they felt he was still a little "young and raw," according to my sources. He was "buried" behind Duncan, Elson, Oberto, Horry and Bonner, the smallest of whom is 6-10 and 240 lbs. Considering both circumstances, he got his playing time during practice.

Please remember to use an "IMO" when conjecturing. Thanks.

If he was that good, he should have gotten some playing time in front of Horry and Bonner. Elson is good but not that good either.

Okay, apologies for being snotty. Did you see the words "young and raw." Popovich is a cross between JVG and Adelman with a definite lean toward JVG. Pop does not like mistakes and has benched Parker in his career because of them. Why did Beno Udrih lose favor? Same thing.

Butler likes to play the offensive glass but did not have as much enthusiasm for the defensive glass. From what I am told, he is still fine-tuning his footwork and boxing out skills. At 22 he has time to learn/improve and has the potential to be very good.

I doubt denniscd is Feigan. Denniscd posts the obvious and calls it "insider" knowledge. Until Clutch or one of the other administrators says he is the real deal, I remain a skeptic.
