Hearty congratulations. You guys helped your son maximize his abilities and provided a platform of support to help him succeed. My kids are in college and on their way as well.

The following isnt directed at you, just my general thoughts on this story - I don’t understand how people can look at this story and just scream DEI when (1) there are few actual facts to support such a claim, and (2) this story actually highlights a number of problems/failures that are much more important.

As to the latter, I feel sorry for this young lady, even though she is individually responsible for her actions that contributed mightily to her illiteracy. All students have a range of potential outcomes and where they land is highly impacted by their parents, peers and educators.

This story appears to highlight significant failures by her parents and her educators, and reflects problems faced by many students in under funded and under served communities, across all ethnic groups and usually involving low socioeconomic backgrounds. I grew up in a lower class immigrant household, went to below average to average public schools, but my parents cared and I was motivated. I was able to overcome negative circumstances to achieve on the higher end of my potential outcomes. I’m sure there are many people here that have similar stories.

Instead of discussing these problems, which are the driving forces behind this story and illiteracy, we have some posters (@tinman @strosb4bros @CrixusTheUndefeatedGaul) who are obsessed with culture wars and DEI, and they seem to care about little else. They certainly don’t appear to care about the young woman in this situation, people in similar plights, funding of schools, or holding high educators accountable. Rather, they appear to be quite gleeful that this young lady is illiterate so that they can blame it on DEI and continue their mindless circle jerk.

She got pushed through the system
The system thought they did her a solid
