not that I don’t agree with premise that sometimes police are needed where social workers would fail ....

But cmon , the knife is already at the throat . Police dispatch still takes just as long . Or do social workers not get emergency lights ?

grandma is dead either way . I cannot endorse this cartoon

That is something the bootlickers don't get. The vast majority of police responses are AFTER the violence happened. Probably the best argument for the second amendment.

To be fair police presence can deter a crime. For example a squad car parked outside a gas station at night probably is off the list for a potential robber.

Obviously there is a need for police. The people against reform like @MojoMan will use the most absurd arguments from the left to ignore legitimate reforms.

We all know Cops will just shoot both the perp and the hostage so what’s your point?

There should b more laws to keep dem bad apples of the force for good.

Like if any Healthcare worker fked up and someone died cause of it they could lose their license and not practice.

Police officer guns down the wrong person or got fired for doing something improper he can go find a job somewhere else. Quite disturbing.

I read a dozen Mass state troopers are going to or already have quit over the vaccine mandate. I say good riddance to bad rubbish. If you're not willing to take a vaccine for yourself and the good of others, then you should not be entrusted over public safety.

Another thing is the current anti-vax movement with the covid vax has a strong correlation with right wing rhetoric as it opposes "the left" and Joe Biden.

Most of those 12 troopers are probably hard core right wing zealots. So good riddance.

Question 2 on the Minneapolis ballot that would've replaced the Police Department with a Department of Public Safety is defeated.

Minneapolis rejects policing overhaul, CNN projects

(CNN)Voters in Minneapolis rejected a ballot measure to overhaul policing that was drafted in the wake of George Floyd's murder by a police officer and as Black Lives Matter protests seized the country -- but went to voters amid rising concerns about crime.

CNN on Tuesday projected that Minneapolis Question 2 had failed. The measure would have given the city council oversight of a new Department of Public Safety and done away with a requirement to employ a minimum number of police officers tied to the city's population.
The status quo-affirming result is a major setback for the movement to fundamentally reduce or eliminate the role of police in America. Opponents of calls to "defund the police" will point to the vote as fresh evidence that the backlash to police abuse that fueled last year's protests, which followed the murder of Floyd by then-Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, has run up against a countervailing wall of concern over public safety.
The question of whether to do away with the Minneapolis Police Department and replace it with a Department of Public Safety resulted from a petition drive following Floyd's murder.

His death in May 2020 was captured on video by a bystander and the video went viral on social media, leading to protests, rioting and looting across the country. In response to the protests that drew national attention, Minneapolis city councilors gathered in a city park and pledged to dismantle the police department.
More people cast their ballots early this year than any other Minneapolis election in 45 years. Early voting was up 143% compared to the 2017 municipal election, and up 488% compared to the 2013 municipal election. By about five hours into Election Day, about 30% of registered voters had cast a ballot early, by mail, or in person.
