basso, your response doesn't surprise me a bit, i could have guessed as much. of the options, besides other/apathetic, i would also say i am an independant liberal with views all over the map. further, i'd say we're both machiavellians. the difference is that your moral compass is on stun and mine is set to kill.
There is a difference between political stance and what party you support. I am an Anarchist-Republican. I voted for the last 3 Democrats for president.
I actually lean to the left when it comes to healthcare, social services, and some economic endeavors...Other than I believe in the Bill of Rights, Pro-Christian, Pro-God of War and I feel my breathen on the left don't realize, or don't care about the Bill of Rights as a non-elastic contract...which I feel it is.
A former Rush Limbaugh dittohead and strong Republican supporter, I would've voted for Nixon, (probably) Reagan, GHW Bush, Dole. Thanks to George W. Bush, the War and pork-barrel spending and high-moral party, I am now a liberal leaning independent and would vote mostly for Democratic candidates. Voted for Gore and Kerry the last two general elections. Plan to vote for Feingold in '08... don't care for anyone else at this stage.
Republican-Liberal - I am really only with the party on a few issues, but those issues are important enough to me for me to vote Republican fairly consistantly. Like most people, I think it would be great if there was a party that more accurately reflected all of my positions, but that just isn't the way it works.
I put Republican-Conservative, but thinking about it, R-C doesn't really describe my political views that well. On issues such as abortion, gay marriage and stem cell research (social issues) I take a decidedly liberal stance. What made me say R-C, however, was that I believe strongly in: Small government Low taxes Privatization wherever possible Equal rights for everyone Strong military As for the current War on Terror and War in Iraq, I am in favor of both, I hope and trust we stay the course in both and will eventually win both, making the citizens of the world safer everywhere.
I would say that I am either a Moderate Republican or a Conservative Independent. Most of the things I am in favor of are in line with the Republican party; however I am for gun control, tax on the very rich, and improving our educational system by whatever it takes (more funds). I am also not crazy about the whacko evangelical Religious right which hurts the Republican party mightily, IMO. I voted for Clinton in 1992, did not vote in 1996, Gore in 2000 , and Bush in 2004. However, I would have easily voted for Clark or Edwards if they were the democratic candidate instead of the awful Kerry. I echo thacabbage's sentiments on the 2 party system sucking out of the ass.
Moderate Republican. I have strong views on most issues, but they go in a variety of ways. For example, I support gay marriage(a decidedly liberal position), yet I'm totally against hate crime legislation(a conservative one).
I find this the exact opposite of what I would have expected to find. So many Republicans are just the Old school "Small Government" Republicans, an against the social aspects of today’s republican party. The republicans since the 80's have used these social issues to invigorate their base. Well a lot of you must be furious with bush since he is in NO WAY a "small government" republican, only a republican on social issues and his endless support of big business.
ok, Im not much of a political jukie or even really thought much about classifications. My question is... What would I be classified as if the above is true about me?
yes, i armed it long ago and it was counting down. thankfully, i finally figured out how to disable the damned thing.
This is what I believe. LIBERALS usually embrace freedom of choice in personal matters, but tend to support significant government control of the economy. They generally support a government-funded "safety net" to help the disadvantaged, and advocate strict regulation of business. Liberals tend to favor environmental regulations, defend civil liberties and free expression, support government action to promote equality, and tolerate diverse lifestyles. This is what I am not: CONSERVATIVES tend to favor economic freedom, but frequently support laws to restrict personal behavior that violates "traditional values." They oppose excessive government control of business, while endorsing government action to defend morality and the traditional family structure. Conservatives usually support a strong military, oppose bureaucracy and high taxes, favor a free-market economy, and endorse strong law enforcement. I agree with some of the points of... LIBERTARIANS support maximum liberty in both personal and economic matters. They advocate a much smaller government; one that is limited to protecting individuals from coercion and violence. Libertarians tend to embrace individual responsibility, oppose government bureaucracy and taxes, promote private charity, tolerate diverse lifestyles, support the free market, and defend civil liberties. I know the initial post said no bashing but i am curious about this. Basso, do really think you and I think the same?
I would call myself as a Radical Moderate. I take very strong stands on the need for moderation and compromise between ideological poles and I believe the best government for the US is divided government where no one party controls all branches of government. I also don't believe that the parties are really the same and there are profound ideological differences between them that aren't always obvious because they don't affect headline grabbing issues.
Is this just a funny way of saying that you are a p-o-ed moderate who "is mad as hell and is not going to take it anymore"?
independent conservative here. I'd be a Republican but that party is so corrupt right now with a new scandal every week, I'm disgusted to be associated with it. And don't get me started on the Democrats.
Federalist capitalist isolationist might reflect my views better. I've come to have a greater respect for state's rights and decentralization of power, for all of its problems I still think capitalism is better than socialism, and I think the US should quit being the world's policeman and intervening in other countries affairs.
