shump plays the 2 & 3 and yes he started last night at the 2. He got his spot back from j.r smith. He would be a back up for the 2-3 spot here
Hell yea... Especially if it's true that Chicago wants Asik back. I would love to have Deng or Jimmy from Chicago if Murray can get one of them. I believe Deng would make this team a legitimate contender. Would also improve the bench by having Parsons as a 6th man.
Meh. Give it some time. The schemes are just fine. Communication/execution needs to be better, but it's still pretty early. Dirk and Monta are a super tough cover. The Rockets will probably always be at best a fringe top-10 defensive team, but I honestly wouldn't be too worried. The Rockets currently have the same defensive rating as the Grizzlies and I don't hear/see anybody panicking about their defense either. Who are you going to play this "defensive wing" over, anyway? Harden and Parsons will play heavy minutes and finish pretty much all the games. I guess you could think about trading for a good defensive PG that also can defend SGs and cross-match some -- trying to hide Harden on the least potent offensive player -- but there aren't a ton of those PG out there that can do so (while not being a liability on offense). George Hill may be an option I suppose, though I'd be surprised if the Pacers were to trade him.
post from torocan I wouldnt give it any time its a need ASAP Points per game is really misleading since we run one of the fastest paces in the NBA. Also, even points per possession is an incomplete picture since it's an overall statistic versus a granular statistic. For a more complete picture it's better to look at a variety of team statistics. Houston Rockets Opponent Floor %age - 15th Opponent Fastbreak Efficiency - 3rd Opponent Shooting %age - 3rd Opponent 3pt %age - 20th Opponent 2pt %age - 3rd Opponent FTA/100 possessions - 14th Opponent Non-blocked 2p% - 4th Defensive Efficiency 19th Opponent Percent of Points from 2 pointers - 5th Opponent Percent of Points from 3 pointers - 26th Opponent Percent of Points from FT's - 12th http://www.teamrankings.com/nba/team-stats/ So, what I gather from this is our Paint defense and Fast break defense is actually Elite. Our ability to avoid fouling is mediocre. And our 3 point defense is terrible. We're guarding the paint and inside and getting killed from the arc. That's going to take some work...
Who sits... that's the main question. IMO the one guy who could make a huge difference would be Nick Batum. The reason being he helps tremendously in their 2 biggest areas of weakness (perimeter d, and 3 point shooting), and he's versatile enough to play the 2 through the 4 and guard the 1 through the 4. You can easily play him alongside either Parsons, or Jones at the forward spots. -Shumpert sounds nice, but my question here is who sits when he's on the court? I see a much bigger role for someone like Batum who can guard and offensively play in so many more lineups. -Lance Stevenson as well would be a great pickup, but he's not going anywhere. -I'm intrigued as well about Thad Young. Always thought he had elite potential as a defender at the 3/4 spot, but not sure he's much of an upgrade now from Jones now that he's really exclusively a 4. -Marion would be a huge pickup offensively, but the Mavs would want the kings ransom for him just because of sentimental value & competing in conference. Right now, the guy who seems the most available would be Shumpert, but I'm just not sure who sits when he's on the court, and I'm not in love with going that small at the end of games every game if you are going to play him alonside Harden/PG/Parsons/Howard.
Batum is incredible, but Portland is playing some great basketball right now and they know what they have.
Contract is light not a big risk at all, he can back up 1-3 does not matter. at the end of games bev can sit or lin if defense is the need. Bev is pesky but shumpert is taller and bigger can shoot over him as easily as bev, you can put him on whatever player is hot at the time, (rose, kobe, wade, whoever watch the video) he shoots the 3 just as good as bev but has more of a offensive punch since he can drive better and dunk finish around the rim. It’s all about who is available right now (which he is) but even if he wasn’t he would still be high on my list because of his contract and when it ends <iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/XADvQQHdxWY" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Exactly. Its a shame too because really he is an overpaid player on a team that really shouldn't be this good, but the timing is just awful. Most teams would be dieing to get his contract off their books, but they just so happen to be in the middle of one of their best stretches of basketball in the past 10 years.
Remember when people were convinced they'd be crappy / so desperate for Asik by ASB that they'd just shove LMA at us? Fun times.
just said this in the other post... what if we deal asik to knicks for shumpert and Baragni? if asik to nyk doesnt work...maybe a 3 way where rondo goes to the knicks...shump and barg to houston and celtics get asik and some other assets like draft picks and or dmo?
I think any of these guys would be great pickups. Loul Deng Avery Bradley Iman Shumpert Courtney Lee Tony Allen (probably impossible, but it would be awesome)
who are the best? Tony Allen, Kawhi Leonard, Paul George, George Hill, Mike Conley, Shane Battier, LeBron James you think we can get one of them? if Indy want to do it i have no problem trading Haren/Lin for George/Hill judging our relationship with Sacramento i guess we can get John Salmons problem is he made 7.6M (next year is team option) and only way to get him is trading Asik Sacramento is looking for draft pick in return and they already have Cousins at center
