When you rewatched it, did you note when the clock started? Did it start when Roy caught the ball? Or when he landed with it?
i agree with you totally. i can not understand why other guys can not score in this play except T-Mac, we have so many good shooter, but i can not see them in this play, i am not sure we can have a good play next time if we still play in this way.
Our defense will be fine when Battier gets back. That guy is an amazing team defender. Always makes the right rotation, gets steals, takes charges, etc... It's gonna make a difference on the defensive end
Portland defense on possible last shot: 4 hands in the grill of Ming. Houston: wide open uncontested 3 Sad.
Let me check WOW. All I can go by is the clock on the TNT score (the shot clock is blurry), but it didn't start until he is in the air and about to release the ball. He had the ball in his hands before the clock started. Not sure if it would have mattered b/c the ball was almost in midair before the clock expired
i dont see what the problem is with yao on the inbounds. if there isnt a defensive breakdown between artest and mcgrady, then a VERY tough shot by roy is even tougher.
2 of those hands giving him a silly little touch foul. Still able to make the shot. Gave us a chance to win. Wide open uncontested 3? Fine. I'll take that EVERY time to beat us. It could have been better defended, but that was a ridiculously tough shot. We got "pwned hard" on this one.
I think it would've mattered. Unless this guy is the Flash, theres no way he can catch the ball in mid-air, land, turn around, square up, and shoot a jumper with normal form all in .8 seconds. IMO, thats what Adelman was thinking. Thats why he designed the defense to prevent the lob.
what would have mattered is when they did not start the clock again after the made shot by TMAC around 30 seconds.
Thats irrelevant. If you're going to consider that, then you have to consider that every event that followed would change. Thats like saying if the Rockets had made one more 3 pointer, they wouldve won. It makes sense on paper, but not in reality.
I was thinking to myself why is tracy out there. he is injured and there is noway he should be there on that possession. but look at it this way, they won the game on a 30 footer from almost the half way line. i would give them that shot all day everyday then a shot close to the bucket. it happens, they got lucky.
t-mac really failed us at the end. it's very difficult for artest to rotate off another potential shooter to a running roy in .8 secs. t-mac was really lagging.
I'm pretty sure McGrady did exactly what he was supposed to do. Looks like it was a zone and McGrady was making sure that whoever Artest was guadring (Aldridge?) didn't cut for an easy shot. Once he saw the ball go to Roy he ran over to try and stop it. I'm gonna go watch it again. It looked like Artest's defender was holding him. Eitehr that or he just in bad position. Either way Roy had to shoot up a turn and shoot 40 ft prayer. You can't blame the defense.
You're right. The play is up on haier's play of the day at the nba website. But here's a picture: Notice that he has already caught the ball in midair, landed, turned around, squared up, and is just now rising up for the jumper. And the clock hasnt started.
Ron probably would have been right there on his a$$ but it was a lucky shot regardless. Hopefully our JVG defense doesn't wear off.
