On through the night, high n' dry, and pyromania; all 3 of their earlier records, they all rock out.

Hysteria and on are all overproduced mutt lange regurgitated pop ballads...

imo Motley Crue's TOO FAST FOR LOVE records blows all those bands out of the water. Although Motley Crue's influnces are more drawn upon (punk) Johnny Thunders/Dolls, Hanoi Rocks lines...Their still considered "hair metal"

Manny, I encourage you go to pick some HANOI ROCKS albums up. It's the "hair metal" band that never was. YOu'll be amazed.

    no comment on bon jovi.

Photograph might possibly one of the greatest rock and roll songs of all time.

Neither are bad--certainly better than anything from Aerosmith did over the last 3 decades, but neither are all that great. Let's not put them with Van Halen, AC/DC, The Crue, Metallica, or probably Judas Priest as most of the hard rock/metal leaders of that time. If you wan't to go more pop/alternative, they don't stack with U2, Smiths, and a host of other bands. (Let us not even bring up comparisons to Zeppelin, Stones, or Pink Floyd).

I do have a friend that said if you got over the screaming girls and could put down your macho side for a second Bon Jovi put on a kick ass show back in the 80s. I never tested him on his theory, but did see Def Leppard in the mid 80s I think and it was a good (not great) concert.

    and The Smiths

In all seriousness though, a one armed drummer is pretty kick ass...
Imagine if T-mac only had one leg or Ryne Sandberg only one hand. We'd remember a one armed athlete.

    Gotta go with Def Leppard.

Foolin, Rock of Ages, and Photograph are all awesome songs.

I'd put Aerosmith as one of the top two or three rock/hair bands of all time. Way ahead of Lepard and Bon Jovi. They are still well loved. People still like their old tunes. People like their new tunes. They never broke up, died, or got killed. They put thought into their lyrics and videos. They picked rap up by its bootstraps and threw it into mainstream, and they stayed true to themselves while doing it.

Both are great, so I can't decide.

Survivor should make the list. Not my era but I still love their music. The songs they made for the Rocky movies are great.

I thought the pre 75 stuff was great. I enyoyed their work with RunDMC too. But the rest of their stuff the last 2-3 decades I just see (hear) nothing in, and get frustrated that it takes up so much airplay up on rock stations. Just my opinion of course.

Rolling Stones stuff the last 3 decades or so haven't been much better either, but that doesn't mean they were not great. I guess break ups can be a good thing.

The thing that aggravates me about Bon Jovi is his need to be seen as a "talented" artist in the Springsteen vein. He's a fifth rate John Mellencamp at best. His acting sucks too.
    Pyromania rocks anyway.
