I've bee trying to post on this thread all day, but the board has been so glitchy at work. I'm just going to repeat what the freak said..the first 3 Cheap Trick albums are golden, plus get the complete ive At Budokan record. The "In Color" re-recordings from 2002 by Steve Albini (Slint, Nirvana, Pixies, etc.) are also killer, and in fact it's what I'm listening to right now.
The finest "I want out from my record deal" single ever recorded, by "the Tartan Horde." Holy **** that cracks me up. B/W "Let's Go to the Disco."
Does yours have the incorrect "Eight Arms To Hold" Reference as well? Love that. Of course, the movie would be retitled "Help." Re: Deep Purple - My three month old's favorite song is one I co-wrote with Deep Purple called "Poop In The Water," which is a remake dedicated to when my baby poops in the bathwater. I personally sing in a very high gospel voice. He seems to enjoy it.
Yea, I went ahead and got the first 3 plus the complete Budokan concert AND Dream Police (mainly because I like the title track so much). Being single and not having any family obligations definitely has its advantages!
Are these fairly easy to find online? I don't think they were ever released, were they? I remember rumours of this happening a while back, but never knew they went through with it. I wouldn't mind getting a hold of these.
Nick Lowe is one of my heroes. When I met him in 1995, I told him that I grew up wanting to play guitar like Jimmie Vaughan and write songs like Nick Lowe. His response was "that's a helluva combination, mate!" The "Pure Pop for Now People" album cover he signed for me that day is framed and on the wall in my house.
I have his signed "Nick the Knife" hanging just feet away from me. It kind of watches over me, always asking, WWNtKD?
I wish, I wish I WISH I WISH I WISH he would do a show here in Houston. The closest he got recently was SXSW in Austin a couple of years ago, and I'm pissed I didn't go. I think if I ever hear of him playing live from here to Dallas to Austin to New Orleans, I'm dropping everything and taking a road trip.
I did that last year. He played Chicago, at a club about four blocks away from a place I used to work at, but the tickets were sold out to members before they were availible to the public. My gf and I went to Milwaukee to catch him, sacrificing her stick shift along the way. We rented a car, barely made it, but we saw him. Told him about my Dad feeding him and the Rockpile boys back in the day when my Dad used to cater food at rock clubs in Chicago -- got a kick out of that.
Very Cool! I actually got to see Rockpile at their one and only Houston performance...1978 (I think? ) at the old Texas Opry House. I was underage and had to (1) plead with the doorman and (2) promise not to drink before they finally let me in.
