Yes, I know they are being cautious, but after all this time, you have to think the bone is completely healed, and he just needs to get back to practice. The brace seems like overkill to me....he had a non-displaced fracture....tiny...from all reports.....he should be fine..... I am all for taking time to make sure, but a brace can sometimes do more damage as he compensates on his other side while wearing it. If they are trying to protect the knee from blunt trauma, wouldn't knee pads be more effective? DD
How do you konw that the bone is completely healed and barce will do more damage? I'd think the Doctors know la ot more about the injury than you.
WHY IS IT THAT BOOZER HAS THE SAME INJURY, AND HE IS ALREADY BACK. KEITH JONES or WHOEVER BABYS this team. Just let him play, judging by the clips he's running fine. If Keith Jones and the Rockets doctors were the medical team for the Pistons in the late 80's Isiah would have never played on that hobbled ankle. OK... its a different situation (cuz it was the playoffs), but Im not sure the Rockets "medical staff" would clear Yao or T-Mac to play even if it were Game 7 of the NBA Finals and one of them had a hang nail.
Boozer had a hairline fracture of the tibia. Yao had a hairline fracture of the tibial plateau. BIG DIFFERENCE. The tibial plateau supports much more weight, therefore, alonger rehab time.
I think that this is the brace he will wear in practices during his rehab. I doubt this is what he'll wear during the games when he comes back, they have to come up with something better than that contraption.
And Vic is obsessed with following me around and making inane comments about me. Vic...if you want to go out you are wasting your time......you need to move on...... Or, hey, here is an idea....actually contribute to a thread instead of whining about someone's opinion..... DD
I am just speculating, as the average recovery time for a fracture of that type is 6-8 weeks...and it has been more than that already. I really don't know of course.....it just seems like they are being more cautious...can't blame them, but I am just wondering out loud whether a brace is necessary......doesn't that usually protect the tendons? Yao got hit on the knee.....it seems that knee pads would be how to protect that injury.. That is my entire point. DD
Totally correct. There is no need for a knee brace when there is only a tibial plateau fracture. Maybe there is more to his injury than we were told. I wouldn't think that educated sports medicine professionals wouldn't know that the knee brace is uneless in the reported injury situation. Could there be more to it?
For those probably not aware of it, the treadmill in question is a new system from Alter-G: http://www.alter-g.com There are some great videos on there with other athletes on the treadmill... Gilbert Arenas, Shaq, amputees from the Iraq war. It's being used by everyone from the Raiders to the Wizards to the Cal Bears... and of course, by the Rockets. If you look at the videos, you can see that this is definitely "real" running. From an aerobic and conditioning point of view, this is hugely important. The knee will heal at its own pace, and they can't rush that... but if they keep using Alter-G, hopefully he'll get back into game shape MUCH more quickly.
what happens if you trip or lose your footing on one of those? would you lift your legs and u would hang or would your legs drag? seems a little dangerous.
