Sweet video of Yao working out with Anthony Falsone in Vegas from nba.com

    link

In the video Yao is running, jumping rope, performing agility drills, and pumping some pretty serious iron. Falsone talks about getting Yao's conditioning back up to par.

*warning: You have to watch a commercial before the Yao video shows up*

Yao was bench pressing four 45 kg disc, which equals 396 lbs, plus the bar which I am guessing is around 50 lbs. Now that is some serious weight.

Yao definitely has gained some strength, but ultimately, it's his stamina that is the key to his performance.

Yao was benching 225lbs with the long bar (2 x 45lb plate on each side and the bar = 45lbs).

Toward the end of the video, I thought I saw two 45 kg ( NOT lbs) plates on each side, which is a total of four 45 kg. Was it not? I have to watch the video again.

Yeah, they were 45 pound weights, not 45 kg. He was lifting these.

Nice. Looks like Yao is getting primed to return soon. Can't wait to see the big man back in uniform.

When our team is celebrating that championship, we got to find some way to show love for Falsone and Patterson!

Those are your standard 45lb plates. I work out with them all the time. :)

Wow, I'm amazed. I didn't know Yao could do so much with his knee already. This is a very good sign.

The rest of the league, you've been warned.

During one of their updates, 610 reported that Yao Ming will practice with the team tomorrow and is also scheduled to have a MRI. After the MRI the team doctors will determine when yao can come back!!

Chinese web site reported that Yao actually practiced today. He went through some non-contact drills and ran some new plays that were put in after his injury...

So Yao did 10 reps at 225... looked like he had about 2 more max... which extrapolates to a bench max of between 275 and 300... right?

    Translation:

In the Toyota Center training facility, Yao stands against a wall surrounded by media, and all the questions concern how he felt about his first practice.

On Feb. 20 at 2PM local time, the Rockets held their first practice since the AS Break. Yao participated but did not join in any contact drills.

"Did you have fun in Vegas?" A reporter not normally covering the Rockets from a local TV station asked, but it seemed a bit out of place.

Yao didn't answer for a second, and then laughed. "I forgot about the AS break already, I left it behind there."

After being injured for 8 1/2 weeks, Yao is racing against time, hoping he can go back to what he loves to do -- to play basketball. The Rockets would like to bring him along slowly, but they are pushing ahead with the rehab with the advice of the doctors.

Concerning JVG's stance of "If he can practice, he can play", Yao said: "I'm just doing what I should do, work hard to recover, to prepare for the game."

Concerning his first practice back with the team, Yao said: "I did all the drills that were non-contact, and began learning some new plays. I can make all the necessary movements, but my quickness and strength aren't so good. I should be OK to work in non-contact drills."

Clearly Yao is not back to his best, and he knows this. "I think I'm not 100%, I haven't gotten back to where I was pre-injury, that I am sure. But I think it will take some time to get back there."

OOPPSS .........someone beats me on that.

Anyway, this is from Zhang Yi of Sohu Sports from Houston.

YUP.....Yao Ming has started team practicing with the Rockets. He is doing everything as required in the team practice, other than playing contact basketball.

Another article from Zhang Yi of Sohu Sports.

    http://sports.sohu.com/20070221/n248310311.shtml

All the contents very similar to the above, except one additional information at the end of the article.

Yao Ming will go to have another Magnetic Resonance Inspection (MRI) tomorrow (February 21 US Houston time). He said he will know after the MRI when exactly can he be returning to play. :D
