I was listening to 610 early this morning and Lance said that he talked to some rockets officials who say that Yao Ming will be back in early march!
Geeeeeeez, the following are quotes from Jonathan Feigen's blog. http://blogs.chron.com/nba/2007/02/rudy_g_the_trade_and_the_futur.html#comments So after all, Wang Meng is again fabricating up stories ??? 10-minute jogging is totally different to 30 second slow motion jog in an underwater treadmill. I just hope Jonathan Feigen is wrong or mis-informed this time.
i'll go with Feigen. now that i think about, it would seem almost unbelievable that Yao would just up and run after having put almost no weight on his knee for the previous six weeks. the more cautious approach would indeed be the underwater treadmill and gradually work up to full-speed weight bearing running. how long that might take is anyone's guess. emphasis on guess.
I don't know who to trust....Yao has been known to push it, and Feigan is clearly a Rockets team stooge....so...... Tough call. DD
Tough call indeed !! Wang Meng tricked me before with his fabricated story of TMAC rehabilitation over the summer. Jonathan Feigen on the other hand seemed to be a trustworthy guy, who had been covering news of the Rockets for so many years. And he repeatedly mentioned that he had spoken with Keith Jones who should be on Yao Ming's trail all the time. But deep down inside, I just wish for once that Jonathan Feigen was wrong, and Wang Meng was reporting the facts. Maybe Yao Ming did ran that 10-minutes on the jogging machine, without letting Keith Jones know.
I want Yao back on the court as soon as possible, but under no circumstances should Yao take any steps or do anything (esp as major as running) without the approval of the trainers and medical staff and by keeping them in the dark about it. That would a terrible and boneheaded decision, something that is definitely not a Yao-like thing to do. Thanks for all your updates Pryuen, tis much appreciated.
I wouldn't worry about it, I am sure they are taking it very slow with Yao, and it would also not surprise me if Yao was doing some stuff on his own too, didn't he push it a bit this summer coming back from the broken foot? Either way, I want Yao back...WHEN he is completely healthy, and not before.....which I would still guess is mid to late March. DD
Ok...here is some insider scoop. My good friend works for the Houston Texans football team and he told me today that he has seen Yao and his trainer Antony Falsone at the stadium a few times over the last week and that Yao is in fact running. He even spoke to Yao about his workouts and Yao told him he is feeling much better and the running is going well. John Feagan is wrong and for some reason it seems that the Rockets are keeping information to themselves about Yao's progress. I think it may have something to do with the fact that they totally blew the recovery timetable of 6 weeks at the beginning and now they are being extra careful so they don't look like idiots.
Well, not necessary "on purpose". Feigan might not know the whole thing about Yao's status, but it does not mean Rockets cheat him. Why did you reach "on purpose" conclusion.
I say Yao's practicing in 2 weeks and playing from the beginning of March. I think the Rockets avoid putting any pressure on him by not telling us the full story about his health, which is a good thing. Yao healed quickly from his last injury. If watching NBA ball has taught me anything, it's that you can consistently distinguish people's actual healing time versus the prognosis. Those who beat it, beat it usually. Those who take time, always take time. IMO Yao will be playing first chance he gets in March.
This would be good news and it makes sense. I agree the 6 weeks nonsense did make the Rockets look like fools and it tarnished their credibility IMO. I'll believe this story when it's outed by all the media outlets. Thanks for the (hopefully) scoop.
I will believe it when I read it in the Chronicle. Maybe it is simply Yao doing it on his own? I love having that guy on the Rockets he is such a professional, and a hard worker, a lot of players could learn a lot from Yao and his work ethic. DD
Well feigen asked keith jones if yao was running yet and jones said he was not running yet. It's a pretty simple question and not really any grey area there for interpretation. It's not a big deal though as teams lie to reporters all the time about injuries to make sure the competition doesn't know.
