Very quiet these 2 days regarding Yao Ming in China.

No photos, no press conference. Nothing.

Except maybe the following article from sohu.com this morning describing the preliminary diagnosis of Yao Ming's current rehabilitation following yesterday (Monday April 7) joint consultation of 5 top TCM experts on Yao Ming's ankle.

5 top domestic experts of bone traumatology (both Western and TCM) had finally been summoned into Beijing on Sunday/Monday

Yao Ming arrived at the hospital of the National Sports Bureau in the afternoon to take X-Rays on his ankle and received inspection/check-up by the experts

The initial prognosis/consensus from the top 5 experts was that the rehabilitation status of Yao Ming's ankle was extremely good, and is moving in the right direction.

On that basis, they prescribed medicine for Yao Ming that could be applied externally to the wound or to be taken orally.

Yao Ming further clarified that the reason for his return to China was not due to he was dissatisfied with the surgery results, or unhappy with the progress of his rehabilitation. On the contrary, it was due to he was progressing very well with his rehabilitation that the Rockets management and doctors had approved his taking long haul flight to return to China for this joint TCM experts consultation.

He said he will continue his rehabilitation as planned, and is confident that he can retrun to competitive form and shape in time for the 2008 Olympics in August.

As a die-hard Yao fan, you would prefer Yao has a really good rest and a couple of quiet days to deal with his private life after a long season and a disappointing injury, though I can fully understand your feeling, would not you?

Well.....I'm just concerned/worried about his rehabilitation status, and wish to have the latest results of the joint consultation from those TCM experts.

I turst he had had a few days' good rest, enjoying the good food there in Beijing, as well as seeing friends and his national team mates.

Actually on Saturday evening, right after his press/media conference, he went straight to the National Sports Bureau to see his national team mates, and had a long chat with the national team's head coach Jonas Kazlauskas to discuss game plans/strategies for the Olympics.

Yao was trained as a water polo goal keeper before he played basketball. The water polo coach said Yao was a slow swimmer.

It seemed everything relating to Yao Ming trip was monitored, controlled and classified as top national secrets.

Not much news or photos these few days.

Except maybe the following article from sina.com today......

In Summary

Yao Ming has gone thru extensive medical check by the TCM experts on the 7th and the 8th.

Final consensus from the TCM experts was that Yao Ming's surgery had been a success, and he is recuperating/recovering slightly ahead of schedule

A detailed plan and prescription had been formulated by the TCM experts and to be taken back to USA for Yao Ming. The prescription is basically for Chinese medicine to be applied externally on Yao Ming's ankle.

Yao Ming's swelling had not faded, as he had yet to start applying the Chinese medicine onto his wound, as those Chinese medicine/drugs had to passed tests by FDA.

Yao Ming had had a few acupuncture sessions, and currently could not have Chinese tui na (massage) as his ankle/leg is still swollen. He could only do some biking exercise and slowly walk (with the help of his crutches)

He is to leave Beijing in the next 2 to 3 days to make it back to Houston for the Roast and Toast Charity Gala on April 17.

The funny part of the above article is that maybe the Chinese reporter does not know exactly what it meant by Roast and Toast, he just chose to translate it as a celebrity barbecue for charity.

Yesterday (April 14) Liu Yandong, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, State Councillor, and vice-president of the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG) went to visit Yao Ming and other athletes that were recuperating at the hospital of the National sports Bureau.....

And it looks like Yao Ming can now stand and walk without the help of the crutches !!

Yao Ming left Beijing this afternoon (April 15) for Houston (via San Francisco).

He said he needs to do a couple things when he's back into Houston:

Take a photo in front of the Hakeem Olajuwon monument

Show up at the bench on the last home game versus LA Clippers

Show up at the bench to support and rave for his team mates when the playoff starts

Have a good laugh and enjoy the Roast & Toast Charity Gala on April 17.

Start his rehabilitation aggressively with the Chinese medicine he brought back from Beijing

Start watching the video plays of his national team mates

Start asking the Rockets for video of Luis Scola so as to be well prepared playing against Scola during the Olympics.

Yao's English is getting really good. He's come a long way. Can't wait for next season with the big fella back.
