(He) has the love and adoration of millions of people, but at the same time denounced by innumerable people. (He) has a strong body like the highest mountain, but then again always put under scrutiny of microsope by many. (He) has to load and bear huge expectations of many, yet at the same time, he can still stand strong and upright like a man.

    Breaking News !!!

It turned out it was not an April Fool joke.

Yao Ming flew back from Houston via San Francisco and arrived Beijing 18:45 pm tonight (April 3).

As reported earlier, even though he had been working out on the strength and conditioning of his upper limbs and the legs in the gym and in the swimming pool, the wound on his left foot is still very swollen.

So with approval of the doctors/Rockets, he flew back to seek medical help from the Chinese doctors.

He will stay for around 10 days or so in Beijing, and will go through some therapy and treatment by the Chinese medical experts through usage of Chinese traditional medicine.

He will go back to Houston after the short stay to make it back for the Roast and Toast charity event (organized by Calvin Murphy) on April 17, and continue his rehabilitation in Houston.

He will throw a press conference/Q&A tomorrow afternoon at 15:00pm to address questions from the media.

    SO STAY TUNED !! :D

I hate to say it, but if it's swollen how about just letting him rest for a few months? Everybody knows China is trying to get him in shape to play for the Olympics.

Rushing somebody back from injury is never a good idea. Time is the best doctor.

At the very least I'm sure it's a nice break for Yao though. Hopefully he can enjoy the trip.

    I really dont agree.

If you hear what Yao's been saying all along, it's Yao's dream to play in Beijing Olympics. It's funny that you guys always put your thoughts over Yao's wish.

I also dont see what's wrong for China to help Yao for a speedy recovery instead of letting him limping around.

I also think when you get sick, you are the guy that will prefer just lying on the bed and let time be your best doctor. LOL! ;)

IMHO, I don't think you have a clue about the situation.

It is not that China/CBA is trying to get him back into shape to play for the Olympics. The Big Man himself is working his @r$e off to try to get back into form and shape to play for his country. That's why he is working day-in day-out in the gym and in the swimming pool so damn hard.

He said it himself in the press conference on the day that he told the world about his season-ending injury. He will regret it for his whole life if he misses playing in the Olympics. The 2008 Beijing Olympic is a once-in-a-life-time experience for him to play for Olympics in his own country in front of his countrymen, something that he just could not miss, for himself and for Chinese basketball. And it is not as simple as patriotism or medalling for China.

Despite all his hard work, the swelling just did not improve, and that's why he decided to seek help from the Chinese medical experts and use of Chinese traditional medicine.

It maybe something new and surprising to you guys, but Chinese traditional medicine is proven and pretty effective particularly in healing of broken bones or swollen muscles.

Why are they letting Yao get in a Soccer mom van. The thing is too small, get one of those big Van charters for God Sakes.

I never saw Yao dress so nice, not that he's tacky just not usually as stylish

Everyone needs to layoff of yao, there's nothing wrong with seeking a speedy recovery.

I'm sure Yao does want to play in the Olympics, but I think it's naive not to believe that the the CNT hasn't applied some subtle pressure as well.

If I could give some advice to Yao it would be that rushing back from injury is never a good idea. He's still a young man and there will be another Olympics, even if it's not in Beijing. As for traditional Chinese medicine, I know a sure fire remedy for broken bones and swelling. It's called "World of Warcraft". You can also supplement it with "X-Box" or "Playstation 3".

That's true, I don't take medicine. I prefer to just sleep it off.

LOL! Yao's pictures certainly show Yao went back to Beijing under "subtle pressure."

Even when you prefer just lying on your bed while you are sick, I will still advise you to take Prozac.

So after arriving into Beijing, escorted by a Public Security (i.e. police) car, before checking in at the Tiandan Apartment at the National Sports Bureau, Yao Ming stopped by a small restaurant and enjoyed his dinner with his agent and friends, including his best buddy, Liu Wei, the point guard of the Chinese national team, and former team mate at Shanghai Sharks.

The restaurant he went to is one of his favorites as the restaurant is famous for Pickle Cabbage Fish 酸菜鱼, a dish that Yao Ming likes very much. And the dinner was damned inexpensive....400 RMB (approximately US$ 57) for 6 persons.

It looks to me like Yao's enjoying his trip. I'm guessing he'd enjoy it regardless of the reason.

Anyway, here's a prediction. Regardless of how the Chinese therapy goes Yao will show some improvement after the trip. He's probably not doing any conditioning in China and I'm guessing he'll spend his time just relaxing. There's a lot to be said for 1) time and 2) staying off the injury as treatment methods.

And I heartily recommend bed rest for anybody who's sick. One day spent taking it easy gives you as much recovery time as a week spent working sick.
