There's only 2 coaches I would rather see on the bench rather than Rudy, JVG and Larry Brown. One of them quit because of stress and is uncertain if he get back. Unless we can get one of those 2, I wouldn't fire Rudy till next season. I still say people underestimate the need to have a coach who has a name. I rather have a coach that players don't want/dare to rebel against than a smart coach that player's wont obey.
k btw: thought I'd add that crash was the first on the board this season to have the guts to call the lameness of Eddie.
The owner of the Sixers has stated that he has no intention of letting Larry Brown out of his contract, which continues for two more seasons. If he wouldn't let Brown go talk to North Carolina about that job, why the hell would he let him talk to the Rockets about this one? Brown is a great coach, but he isn't going anywhere.
I agree that he Less should look around and put out feelers, but I dont' think a decision for firing Rudy should be made quickly. Wait until you have a coach you really really want lined up then make a move if you're not sticking with Rudy. We don't need multiple coaching changes here. If Rudy fails to get this team to progress next year, then just cut the ties.
We're looking for veterns? Is it just me or does our record doesn't seem rather poor in the area. Willis - Good role player - WIN Clyde - Hakeem wants to win one for his buddy - WIN Pippen - Yea we didn't give up much but - LOSS Barkley - I like his honesty and game but - LOSS Rice - Again we didn't give up much but - LOSS Who am I missing? I hate to go back to the Sleepy Floyd/Joe Barry Carrol days... That gives us a 60% chance (and we have a streak going) of us trading some youth for has been player on the downside of his game. Will the team listen to him? I'm not sure this team would listen to MJ - the other Wizards didn't seem to. I would like to see us pick up a FA with some experience, but I'd be careful to dump youth for "veteran leadership" - except in EG's case - but I'm not sure you could get Cornbread Maxwell for him.
This is what I don't understand. How was there not pressure on Rudy to perform this past season? They'd been out of the playoffs for three years. They landed the #1 pick in Yao Ming. They were getting everyone back who'd missed significant time the previous year. Les Alexander even had his infamous quote about this being one of "the greatest teams ever assembled". Yet here we are in the exact same situation a year later. Fourth straight lottery season(without a pick this time). Same lack of offensive cohesion. Little progress on defense. Other than Yao and Cato, everyone on this team either didn't grow as a player or actually regressed. Hell, they don't even have a Rookie of the Year award to show for Yao's performance. So why are we once again pointing to next season as the year when Rudy will have to guide this team back to the playoffs or else? Is it sympathy for him having cancer? Is Larry Smith being used as a scapegoat? Is $12 million just too much for Les Alexander to swallow right now? The reason I ask is that I'm starting to suspect that there's a significant number of fans, members of the media, and people in the Rockets organization who will give Rudy a pass no matter how much this team fails to live up to expectations. Is there a last straw for you folks and if so what will it be?
my read is he is under contract, so it not like his status is up in the air, he is the coach, unless we hear otherwise and I just don't think they will fire him after he has done and means to the organisation on top of his illness.
my guess is the number of explanation points equals how many weeks Rudy has left if this team isn't way above .500 27
Doc, could you make a parallel/contrasting post about the asst. coaches? And use as many exclamation points as you wish.
The asst. coaches will be back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (How many was that???) I meant.....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wait...disregard that last one...that was too many!
hmmmmmm .......you eliminated an exclamation point ......so by that, you are saying there is a chance they won't be
