No one is basing their conclusions on 1 preseason game.

I'm predicting any where from 40-45 wins.....may squeak into the playoffs and be a first round snack for somebody.

I think we have the talent, but I'm almost certain most of it will be in suits on the bench at the end of the season. :(

I beg to disagree with you. For some unrealistic reason, I believe fans did expect a much better showing from the Rockets v. Orlando. Perhaps, this expectation was due to a number of reports from training camp to the effect that practices were going well.

I just don't understand how someone can come to this conclusion after ONE PRESEASON game. I will never understand some of the posters on this board, it's like you've never watched basketball a day in your life.

So, you don't think it has anything to do with the fact that our best player is coming off major surgery? It's all because of the preseason game the other night. Oooookay.

If you're dumb enough to say we're going to win a championship because the team says practice is going well.......I don't know what to say...

I did expect a better showing in the preseason game. I expected Yao to be more effective, as I think most people did. Honestly, I did think he would be who he was before right away, but right now, I think he's got more in common with Bol, Bradley, and Sebonis then he does with an an all-star dominating center. Not saying he is those guys, but those guys were role players. I'm no longer bothered by the 24 minute limit at all, because his play doesn't even look like it would merit it at this point. No one can really say how quickly he will get back to his old form, or how close to it.

The concern to me now isn't so much Yao, but our bigs in general. We need more defensive ability back there, and I after watching Yao and Hill playing, knowing what Scola and Hayes can do, and suspecting what Miller will add, I completly understand the interest in Dampier.

IMO, pursuing Melo isn't much of an answer, as it's not going to address the interior. I don't think we'll have any issues with scoring from the outside. I don't know that we'll have the best exterior defense, but I don't think it'll be an issue with a good interior defense.

Hopefully, that issue will be addressed through quick improvement, or a change back there, but to me, that's going to be the issue to worry about.

this is where you lose me, da da. well..it's one of the 1,362,737 places you lose me.

give up? give up what? i'm not a player...i'm a fan. i want them to win. but nothing i do is going to change their outcomes. no amount of rah rah sis boom bah here is going to make them any better.

so when i..as a fan...say, "man, wish it weren't the truth...but i don't see them as championship contenders this season" that's not giving up...that's stating my opinion.

if the rockets themselves are doing that, i'd be very very disappointed. but i don't play for the rockets.

You sound like an angry housewife (no offence to housewives)
Have you ever heard the term "That's why they play the games". Over the course of the NBA so many victories have taken place and teams written off. I will tell you why on this board that people believe in the team that they are fans of. It is because most of us were witnesses to the playoff series that saw a team in the Rockets picked against in EVERY round and all the supposed pros said just what you are saying now "They have no chance". What you are suggesting is that we not root for the best possible outcome even before the season has started. Can you say "FAIR WEATHER"? Why don't we just let the season maybe get underway first. Please tell me why a real FAN believing in their team would upset you. That is what they are supposed to do.

I agree with everything you just said, we are not that good. We are not on the Lakers Level. I have no idea where this second best team in the west is coming from. I can telll we over rate our team but not trading Certain Poeces for Melo. Melo is better than our whole team.

I'm seeing this Jordan Hill get overrated, Jordan hill sucks he is not a very good player at all. Then in the preseason game I'm hearing people sayin Courtney Lee had a good game, I'm like what game is everyone watching he played bad. Martin is the best player on our team, and people this we can compete with LA...SMH..I love the Rockets but please realize we are not that good of a team yet, I have faith that Morey will put somethin together, but I feel like its rebuilding time.

    Flame away people

They just decide to post or repost their long held (and for some of them, often repeated) conclusions after one preseason game. :)

For the record, the chances for winning it all is pretty damn slim for all but a few teams out there (and that's reflected in the casino odds, among other things). So, what does this fact mean? To me, nothing.

What they do in the preseason...with Yao playing only 12 minutes...has very little impact at all on my thoughts about this team.

Aside from the thought that your thoughts about this team needs to be re-stated. :)

I don't necessarily disagree with you, but given that (a) the Rockets are already aggressively looking for talent upgrades (as they pretty much always do), (b) there isn't anything I can personally do about any issue the roster may or may not have (like by convincing La La Vasquez to allow his wife Melo to come to Houston), I am just tuning in to enjoy the games.

It's not that the Rockets have ZERO chance of winning it all, it's just that there's probably a small chance of it happening.

Vegas odds have the Rockets winning it all at 35-1. Sounds about right.

But things could change. Yao could be healthier than expected. Kevin Martin could have his best year ever. Brooks might make another leap. Budinger might be an All-Star (ok I'm getting carried away).

Point is, as things stand NOW, our chances look small. But how things are now isn't how things will always be.

I really have the fact the people are saying, We took the lakers to 7 games two years ago....Why is that a measuring Stick for our success

I dont hear Cavs Fans saying we took the Magic to 7 games two years ago; so that means we have a chance of beating them

#1 Gasol just got there 2 months prior
    #2 Bynum was hurt
#3 Trevor Ariza starting are you cereal?
#4 They still killed us regardless
#5 IT WAS 2 YEARS AGO, AND THEY WON 2 TITLES SINCE THEN
