well that always has been SOP around here Start a thread wanting to trade for whatever bench player burned us the night before. I was frankly surprised to not see one demanding a trade to get Devin George or Barborosa. ehh, whatever. RocketsMac, look at this way, if negative whining is to be called "venting" then whining about the negative whiners could be considered the optimist's only real chance to make sure people don't think the negative whiners represent the majority of us. Someone will say that we have our chance to post our positivity just as well as they do their negativity I sppose that is true, as long as you like being piled on by the neggies adn insulted. That seems to be one aspect of their discussion style that differentiates them from the pollyannas, they are far more inclined to answer with insults (Sam and BJ not withstanding ) anyway, Ive made my view on this visible and thats mainly what I wanted to do I'd continue further but I know getting sensible answers is unlikely and the discussion isn't gonna change the behavior of the major offenders, so its a waste of my time for the most part.
Manny, I completely agree with you. I know we have had some differences in the past, and I did kind of tease you a bit for your mini-golf as a date posting, but I find your posts of a very high quality and wanted to say I appreciate you being on this board. You are clearly a very valuable member and I can read in your posts how much you care, particularly in the relationship threads, where I always look for yours first to read. Anyway.....just wanted to say that on record. DD
I'm no doctor and neither are you. But with TMac's back injury, my best understanding is that is exactly what you don't want to do. Perhaps someone with more expertise on the subject could step in here, but giving TMac more short breaks would cause his back to stiffen up, leaving him even more susceptible to injury. Empirically, I notice TMac is usually a lot more hesitant when he comes back in after a break. Case in point: Remember the first time T-Mac went down this year? It was very soon after a prolonged break caused by a power outage at the beginning of the 4th quarter in Washington. You're complaining about a problem and offering a solution that quite probably would make things worse. At a minimum, it hasn't been shown to alleviate his back problems. That's rich. As far as your minutes complaint, TMac playing returned when Yao went out. I would imagine if you looked, Yao's minutes probably went up when TMac went out. And then you qualify the minutes saying it includes an outlier because he played under 30 minutes in Atlanta - isn't that part of the basis of your complaint? He plays too many minutes in blowouts? So if he takes TMac out in a blowout, he's artificially deflating his mpg; if he doesn't, he's ruining growth opportunities? In your book, JVG can't do wrong right. We get the point.
Well, thanks - I don't really know what caused you (if it was a certain post by me or something else) to post that but I appreciate it, nonetheless. You are a passionate and entertaining guy - granted I don't find myself agreeing with you on many things (although Gumby is a notable exception) but you definitely make the BBS an interesting place around here.
I agree 100% - bunch of f%$^&ing idiots. This is the best team we have had since this BBS has been up and this board is the most negative i have ever seen it. this place used to be very positive even when we sucked......
I do agree it is the best team we have had in years.........and as such I want the best for this team...a RING. But your point about this place being a positive forum is just simply wrong...it has never been that way, but it has had a lot of inside info and quality posts. DD
DD has posted 26 times on this thread. Give it a frickin' rest. There's nothing more you can possibly say on this topic that will do anything other than annnoy everyone. Please walk away from your computer and go get a late lunch or something.
actually yes, this place used to be a lot more positive than it is now......I didn't mean 100% positive.....but i remember when we sucked ass and the majority of the posts would still be positive criticism or a hope that we will be good in the near future.....NOW its fire Gundy this, trade t-mac that.....I see that crap and it makes me sick......it is just a reminder that there are a lot of people on this board that are bandwagoners... Just not as pleasant of a board as it used to be. ROCKETS 4 LIFE WIN OR LOSE!!!!!!!
It's real simple. When the Rockets are winning, JVG is a Coach of the Year candidate, one of the most highly knowledgeable coaches in the NBA and a defensive mastermind who can lead us to the promised land. When the Rockets are losing, JVG is a Pink-Slip Candidate who burns out his starting 5, refuses to play rookies, and creates a highly non-innovative game that bores one to tears. Bill Belichek is a winner, Mary Levy is a loser. Joe Torre is a winner, Dusty Baker is a loser. Phil Jackson is a winner, Jerry Sloan is a loser. Scotty Bowman is a winner, etc. etc. etc. And many of us buy into it, too.
27 - A fantastic post ! and a very good point. I will retire from this thread, I just don't enjoy people calling others idiots, but I do UNDERSTAND Batman's passion. DD
If we can't win, I'd rather we be a lottery pick and add some new talent to our team. If we hadn't gone to the lottery last year, we'd at best be mediocre because both Yao and Tmac were out for the season. And don't you tell me we can make a deep playoff run with undersized guards and a bunch of NBDL players. Last year's lottery gave us Shane Battier. Hopefully we won't have to go this year, but I just hate teams who are halfway between first round outs and championship contenders.
We're a contender if we have everyone healthy. What he really need is for Luther Head to develop some actual PG skills, so we're not relying on Alston/Lucas at that position in the playoffs. And either Bonzi or Snyde need to play a bigger role on this team. If not, then we need to acquire another wing player with size.
It seemed to me that Van Gundy was trying to work Snyder into that role before he was injured. He wasn't even shooting up to par, but was beginning to show flashes of being a very good fit for the team. I am confident that as he heals he will provide a very good spark and a wonderful solution to the match up problem we currently have with Dallas.
Herein lies the paradox - do great players make great coaches or do great coaches make great players? People have said Phil Jackson is not as elite as everyone makes him out to be because all his championship rings have come from phenomenal players such as MJ, Scottie, Rodman, Shaq, and Kobe. But would Jeff Van Gundy win those championship rings if he was the one coaching those teams? Hmmm. I'm not saying he would or he wouldn't, but it's something to think about.
Yeah he was one of the first off the bench and he even started a game. What stumps me is why hes using him so little now post-injury. Are they just being cautious about his injury? Just hasn't practiced enough? It's been more than a few games since he was reactivated. Or JVG being stubborn? Come tomorrow, if he still doesn't get more than garbage time minutes, something is definitely wrong. You know, anyone can look up my posts and see that i haven't said a word bashing JVG and its actually the opposite. But when I see the other teams' 2 guards taking Head to the post I wonder wtf JVG is thinking when he has one of the strongest guards in the league and one of the most athletic guards in the league (ask von wafer).
