When people are whining on how Morey screwed up on second rounders, you know he's doing a good job.
Seriously, this is just hilarious. Might as well complain that we drafted Yao over Amare or Dream over Jordan.

Because they are watching espn show hi-lights of deandre dunking, but not seeing how lost he gets on defense or how teams score more when he's on the court.

I know we need a center....it's very very clear. the rockets had a guy in mind but he's done for the year. There is no need to reach back 3 years ago to try to find a mistake in the f7cking 2nd round.

This thread belongs in the "whining" section. It's nothing but a waste of time.

He's getting about 13 boards by just cracking 30 mins this year with Toronto. I'm not saying he should get 30 minutes regularly, but he's playing the role that they brought him in to play--Defense and rebounding. The same role we drafted him to play.

He would probably still be on this team if we didn't have Chuck Hayes.

...that type of reasoning led to Hasheem Thabeet being drafted.

    Probably not.

Swapping out (the cheaper) Dorsey for (the more expensive) Hilton Armstrong was part of Sacramento's incentive for trading Kevin Martin. Plus, I think it was necessary for salary cap rules. Dorsey was the most expendable player on a cheap deal at the time.

Plus, I think Dorsey (whose salary would have been non-guaranteed for this season had he stayed on the team) would have been waived, given the additions of Jordan Hill and Patrick Patterson and the apparent need for a third PG in Ish Smith.

(Your points are otherwise well-taken. Sorry to nit-pick.)

As the corollary, you could say DeAndre Jordan probably wouldn't still be on this team because of Chuck Hayes. When we drafted Dorsey, many posters here thought he'd be a taller, longer, more athletic version of Hayes. But Dorsey couldn't compete with the real deal and Hayes is still a valuable part of the rotation. It would have been the same with Jordan -- not being able to provide the defense that Hayes brings despite all his height, strength, and blocks.

I have to give it up to Leeb on this one, he was on DeAndre from the beginning, but I have to wonder, and I have no evidence of this....

If the fact that he was from Houston, was allegedly in a gang (notice the large Astros tattoo on his arm), and they were afraid of him hanging out with the wrong crowd and decided to let him go.

It was well documented that a big part of Gerald Greene's problems were his friends, his access to drugs and other bad items that stopped him in his tracks.

If you are the Rockets and you are thinking of spending millions of $$$$ on a talented kid with a bad history, maybe you don't want to enable him by having him stay in his own back yard with all the bad influences around him?

Again, I have no evidence of this, it just could be one explanation as to why they ignored a big with that kind of athleticism.....

Because honestly, it was downright horrible judgement.

...I think most here would benefit from actually watching Jordan more consistently. I think he's a decent enough backup Center and I have been talking about targeting him for a while now on this board, but don't kid yourself into thinking he's the future for any franchise. There was no "major mistake" made - he just happens to posses two skills that this franchise happens to need at this exact moment - size, and inside shot blocking but he's not a cure all for the defense though he could be of use here.

He's still a backup center on one of the worst teams in the league for a reason. Right now he is getting some run only because Kaman is hurt. He seems to have absolutely no peripheral vision and easily get's lost in no man's land trying to play help side defense. The blocks he gets are mostly because of his athleticism and height because he is rarely in the right position. Also, his hands seem below average. Even during last night's seemingly "do no wrong" night, he still fumbled away several easy rebounds, an easy alley oop, and a few passes too....and have you guys seen him shoot free throws? The form looks decent, but they rarely go in and he doesn't seem to get a lot of "and ones" despite his size/strength advantages.

Um, we are not talking about the #2 pick.

    That is a different story.

The 33rd pick is much different then #2.

I don't mind Morey making a mistake once but he said this morning on Sports 610 in so many words if the opportunity presented itself again, he would make the same move...Battier for Rudy Gay.

Im gonna go out on a limb and say that there are many more threads like this one started on other teams fan sites about players Morey drafted or traded "low" for than there are ones where morey missed on a player.

my ex wife was his father's boss. the first time i met his father he and my ex were co workers. they worked for an engineering firm and they were having a shrimp boil

all I could eat jumbo shrimp, and all I could drink shiner bocks about 10 years ago. I WILL NEVER FORGET

    yes, kool story bro

anyway, it would be nice to have a big, but I think we had a big who served defensive purposes in 08, can't seem to remember his name. I think he was from the east.

I consider myself a pretty good judge of college talent (when I've seen the player in question play) and I wouldn't have touched Jordan. Saw him play plenty, he looked like trash in college.
