The one that this thread is about is one, Whiteside and Sanders this year for 2 more.

He has consistently taken shots at guys that are good athletes but smaller than normal....some have worked out, Landy and Brooks, others not...Dorsey, Taylor....

I wish he would take shots at guys that are athletic, big and raw.....we need more size.

This thing about Morey being a very bad Athletic big drafter is a theory I understand but have simple thing to point out.

Tell me a GM that is great at this???

People think that you can draft these big raw 7ft ballers everytime, simply because they have potential, that is the most false statement ever. If you are a contender, and you need a backup C, would you take a low rick, low reward, ready to play in the NBA player, or a raw 7 ft huge risk, hight reward, dleague ready???

Do you understand my point, it is not like LAC and Indiana GMs are the best out there because they drafted 2 raw Centers that actually worked for them, what was the risk involved??? Where they contenders???

Look, people like to say that we should drafted Larry Sanders, because he can be a shot blocking machine interior presence, but, have y´all seen him offensively??? If you think Pat Pat has a long way to go, just look at the rookies drafted after him.

I am not defending DM blindly, I would Love to pick Whiteside, I would love for us to draft Luke Babbitt, but look at them, where are they, what are they doing down there.... they are not ready to play rookies, and that is what DM didn´t wanted from this draft, and others before.

Our seasons have been programed to go one way, and after goals are set, draft day is past, injuries (mainly on our 2 big stars) just change everything up.

Why would you make a big push for Whiteside if you had, Yao coming up plus Brad Miller signing...... Of course you will say that Yao should have been out of Houston, because you can´t depend so much on the health of a guy that can´t play 2 games in a row, but hey, that is what you have, and with that, I think Morey has done a great job drafting players, that he thought were ready to play Rookies.

From now on, because we need a C, and Yao´s career in Houston is probably over, we can evaluate if he is not good at that, because NOW we can take risks because we are not contenders.

And by the way, DM will land us DeAndre before Melo arrives  ;)

Bingo, you and me both know this first hand

this is pretty much spot on. I went to high school with DeAndre and he had one of the worst attitudes I have ever seen. Absolutely no work ethic and just a lousy attitude. Granted, that was a few years ago, but I doubt much has changed with him

Also, he was never a Rockets fan or anything, I doubt he would go out of his way to come back home to play

yes, I know, dunking, rebounding and blocking shots are the most useless attributes a Center can have, just look at D. Howard the most useless player until this season, now that he has some post up moves, now he is alright but nothing special right???

Look at this pick-and-roll, with a facial on a Clutch fan favorite....

    <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/-QCj2jshPrE?fs=1&amp;hl=pt_PT"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/-QCj2jshPrE?fs=1&amp;hl=pt_PT" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

And yes, this guy really has personality issues, he will be a trouble maker, and a cancer in the loker room....

    <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/7Q34f-6c9oA?fs=1&amp;hl=pt_PT"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/7Q34f-6c9oA?fs=1&amp;hl=pt_PT" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

And yes anyone can do this move against Horford....

    <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/2anSuWzuf2k?fs=1&amp;hl=pt_PT"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/2anSuWzuf2k?fs=1&amp;hl=pt_PT" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

And finally, yes, Scola, Brad, Chuck can do this.....

    <object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/XUByZiGeuo4?fs=1&amp;hl=pt_PT"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/XUByZiGeuo4?fs=1&amp;hl=pt_PT" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object>

ANd the most important one, compare this to what he could be doing here in Houston, learning the other "things" he lacks.....

    <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/iG3nyQ1Uy6s?fs=1&amp;hl=pt_PT"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/iG3nyQ1Uy6s?fs=1&amp;hl=pt_PT" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

No one is saying that we just found Hakeem part2, some people are saying that this kid, is a 22 year old Center, from Houston, that even lacking post up moves, would be a 10 rebs 2 block instantly on this team, plus he is a true Center, he has the physical tools to go up against the big ones, and we don´t have that, and he is not a finished product, not even close.

He would have been a nice pick over Dorsey, but I'm not sure he is worth "going after"...

He would never play, unless he developed a ton.

DO NOT WANT. He's a knucklehead. I have hung out with DeAndre and seen him practice and work out. He's not getting better!

One of the major mistakes: Passing on DeAndre Jordan in the 2008 draft

I can't believe we took Dorsey over him.

Morey doesn't make mistakes. His calculator was broken, though. I blame Casio.

Just to be clear: this thread is about a mistake Morey made 2 years ago on a 2nd round pick. Right?

Just reposting what I wrote on this a few days back ...

What Morey said about Dorsey after that draft:

    http://www.nba.com/rockets/news/Rockets_select_Donte_Greene_J-276233-34.html

    [rquoter]
    Joey Dorsey (6-7, 265, Memphis)

Says Morey: “He’s, in our opinion, the best defensive big in the country. He anchored the best defense in the country in Memphis, and he was the player on that team who made the largest impact; through steals, through shot blocking, through his ability to guard nearly every position on the floor with his speed and athleticism.

“He’s someone who can make an impact right away. He’s ready to play right now. He can run the floor. He can anchor a transition line-up. We feel like he’s a top-five rebounder in the country on both ends. So he’s creating extra possessions on the offensive end, and he’s getting steals.

“He is 6’ 7’’ but he’s long. He makes up for any sort of size limitation with his wide body, and athleticism and speed.”[/rquoter]

So far in Dorsey's career, he's averaged 13.6 rebounds, 1.7 steals, and 1.2 blocks per 36 minutes. Solid rates. He's also averaged about 5.9 fouls per 36 minutes, he's struggled with foot problems, and is basketball IQ is questionable.

Ultimately, the Rockets took a gamble that he'd pan out into Ben Wallace-light, and it didn't work out. They didn't completely misread what kind of player he'd be, but he didn't turn out to be what they hoped. That's the case with a lot of 2nd rounders.

I won't call it MAJOR but it does look like a bad pick. Saying that, plenty of GMs passed on him and he had a pretty bad rep coming into the draft.

I knew something like this would come up after last night's games. He was VERY impressive for sure.

    Morey doesn't "do" Raw players.

I don't blame him because at the time We needed help for Yao right away.

Morey has had to draft for building playoff runs, meaning he's had to draft on NBA readiness and not raw potential.

I'm sure after this season with no star to build around he will change that strategy.

    NBA Comparison: Dwight Howard

Strengths: Exciting bigman with a lot of promise At 7-feet, his rare athleticism and explosive leaping ability gives him a tremendous amount of potential Hes got a huge frame and can add a lot of weight and become a dominant interior force on both ends of the floor His combination of size, length, and explosiveness makes him a quality shot blocker now who can develop into a dominant one with added coaching and discipline Very solid in the transition game as he gets out and runs the floor very well for a 7 footer A quality rebounder who shows solid effort but must learn better positioning under the basket

Per 36 minutes made me laugh. Useless stats because the kid will rarely ever crack 30+ minutes of game time. Anyone can look good using the useless Per 36 minutes stat.

It's not a useless stat but I agree it's used far too often and holds way too much weight with posters on here
