This is actually a disproven theory. The difference in political ideology between this current generation and older generations doesn't have to do with stage of life. It has to do with the older generations being brainwashed by red scare tactics and being irrationally triggered by the term "socialism".

Obviously there are outliers such as yourself but most don't drastically shift their political ideology. Also many younger people growing older develop more empathy which can also make someone lean more liberal. Younger people can tend to be more selfish as their frontal lobe isn't fully developed yet.

Unfortunately not everyone grows up and develops more mature political beliefs. The best you can do is hope that'll happen.

Everyone gets older, not everyone grows up.

Well the toxic poo slingers found me from D&D lol.
You can tell who they are :)

I don’t think my older daughter will change and tbh that’s ok, we can coexist and have a great relationship and I’ll support and love her no matter and of course I love both girls equal , the younger is more with my political leanings and that’s great but doesn’t mean I favor one over the other.

in fact we spoke about letting them know they are ok to stay with us for as long as they see fit and I’m ok with that. Very proud of both !

That's as it should be though, life is bigger than politics. Some of my best friends are on the complete opposite end of the political spectrum.

Don't let politics ruin your day to day life and relationships.

Some people base a lot of their identity on their political stance -- these people are no fun no matter what ideology they are.

Proud to see you say this, @ROXRAN . I remember posting on social media on the eve of Hillary vs. Trump that while I felt Trump was woefully incompetent I didn’t think he was pure evil . To this day I think Trump loves his children and that’s a good parameter of whether someone is a psychopath or just a person with flaws.

I’m deeply troubled by trump and people who still support trump, but if we all still have unconditional love for our families even when their ideologies differ from our own; there’s still a beacon of hope for society

The hate is strong with this stalker lol. I don’t mind you disagreeing with me, Or even calling me names or having a fit when it’s in a thread that’s appropriate in your view but this thread has absolutely nothing to do with that. I will not allow your trolling to follow in a thread that has nothing to do with your feelings. I don’t typically block people but you are not worth my time going forward.

The hate was strong with what you said.

Saying something like that should follow you forever.

I find it a badge of honor that a troll like you would block me, mission accomplished.

This is the twitter feed of the guy you support.

this morning he seriously suggested drug testing before the debates.

he regularly lies. Regularly as Pretty much that’s all he does. But even if you dont believe it’s that regular you’d be willfully ignorant or just an idiot to not agree that he lies a lot. (You said this thing, here it is on tape or on Twitter. DJ: no I didn’t!).

He treats women like objects... but even worse in an unlawful way. This is pretty important. You’re arguing with your daughter... a woman.

he regularly belittles the armed forces.

he’s attracted to his daughter. This is pretty important. You’re arguing with your daughter.

The other day he espoused the genetic superiority of a bunch of white midwesterners. This is pretty important to anyone who in any way has followed the history of the world and is against ideologies that rely on genetics for basic human treatment. I’m guessing your daughter is against ideas that are building blocks for this like slavery and the holocaust.

he claims to be a Christian yet can’t speak much to the Bible, the ethics good Christians follow, etc. if your daughter is Christian or religious in any This type of hypocrisy is probably unsettling.

he claims to be widely read yet there are interviews where he makes up books that he likes and could t tell you a single thing about them.

he doesn’t believe in science. This is pretty important to anyone who believes in science.

he’s a bully. He attacks people in the way bullies attack people. You’re an adult so this might just seem like no big deal to you. Your daughter(s) we’re in school recently where bullying is about as big a social issue as possible. She’s probably not thinking about it yet but it’s possible she’s considering how she might want her future children to be treated.

this is all just pretty recent stuff. You can read plenty about his business deals pre presidency and it’s just as bad if not worse. And this is just the tip of the iceberg.

Some of my favorites include his narcissistic need to always insert himself in the story in ways that make him seem grandeur despite the fact that in reality his actions are usually those of a coward. See Vietnam. See the helicopter crash that killed some of his executives. See 9/11. Never mind the fact that he’s never proven himself to be capable of running anything much less a business or country.

What is his defining moment? Name one good thing he’s done for the country in 4 years. Not for a select group of people ... the country... as a whole??

I think your options are as follows:

    1. Don’t ever discuss politics with your daughter.

    2. Tell your daughter that you recognize DJT is a HORRIBLE human being but you support him anyway because you don’t care about any of the horrible stuff he’s done you just care about your own bottom line, in a selfish manner. Bear in mind, without doing this, your grown adult daughter is potentially questioning your intelligence. Like “how can my dad be so dumb and gullible??” I’m not saying you are... it’s very possible you’ve seen all the things he’s done and just don’t care that much which, again, is why I suggest you say as much to your daughter. “Hey, I Don’t care about these actions... I’d rather vote for him over the other person because that dude is SLEEPY!!” (Lol... imagine that being the worst thing about a person. He’s sleepy - not that he is, but imagine that was true, whereas the alternative is p***y grabbing, lying, bullying, narcissistic, racist, misogynistic, imbecile, incest daughter loving deranged lunatic Donald Trump”

    3. Stop supporting a horrible human being and leader for president.

Just skimmed through this thread since I last posted. Obviously politics are divisive and many of the posts here show that. I'll save my political criticism for the D&D but I think we need find ways to accept those closest to us even if they completely disagree with us politically.

This isn't to say that politics are unimportant or we should never talk about them. With many Trump supporters that I know including in my own family I try to keep in mind how they treated me personally. And no matter how much I disagree with them politically if they've treated me well personally will still consider them good people.

Also yes 21 is very young and as your daughter get's older she will likely change in many ways too. All of us though have it in the possibility to change no matter what age we are at. As much as she might change and maybe will see your viewpoint. Maybe you can be open to change and see her viewpoint. For me when I was younger I didn't agree with my dad on a lot of things and we had some sharp arguments. As I'm much older now I still don't agree with everything with my father but I understand a lot about him. At the same time for him he's come to respect my views and will often ask me for my viewpoint and even advice on things.

You’re Americans. Push it down. Deep down inside your guts. Let it simmer. Then, one winter holiday, or perhaps a simple Tuesday Evening dinner, you all get hammered and have a screaming match that devolves into a front of the house crying, physical spectacle that’s really about your fractured relationship, that is ultimately broken up by the cops when you both go to jail.

...then just ignore it ever happened, reset.

Weird, I searched this thread for the word "compromise" and came up with zero results.
