seriously, you need to calm down. you've never seen it from euro teams before? do you remember how sabonis wasn't allowed to play in the nba until his legs were all f**ked up and lost all his mobility and quickness? by the time, sabonis played in the nba as a rookie, he was way past his prime and an old man. the reason you think euro teams don't do this is because you're blinded by the propaganda the US spreads regarding communist china and how everything you've heard about their government is negative. it's not as bad as you make it sound and it's not perfect either. but at least yao's legs aren't as f**ked up as sabonis and yao got to play in the nba while he was still young. so i don't really see what the point is in criticizing china as if its doing something extremely unique that is specifically unfair or cruel. wait until something really f**ked up happens, then you can criticize and tell bush to put it in the axis of evil, so we can launch a full scale war and demand that they let yao ming stay in the US, and never play for its national team.
"you're blinded by the propaganda the US spreads regarding communist china" "i don't really see what the point is in criticizing china" "axis of evil" dude, calm down! You are getting way outta line here. I'm just talking basketball rules. You are reading waaaay too much into this. really...back off the keyboard. You are talking to someone who loves talking about the NBA's rules of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, and someone who has read the FIBA rules. It is my hobby. back off.
Codell, Wow. Does the FIBA have that power? Especially in light that it is an NBA contract and that the international championships, whenever they are, do not conflict with the NBA's schedule? If so, what an ace in the hole!
FIBA disallows a player from having a playing license in more than one league. Understand, this is only about league play. FIBA also sanctions several international events outside of league play, and they require the leagues to release the players....in a very restricted manner, though. What Codell is saying is that the CBA released Yao to sign a new license in the NBA. The CBA can never call him back. However, China's national team is well within their rights to call him back for any FIBA sanctioned event...in the limitations that they can only claim him for a certain amount of days surrounding the event. Yao and the Rockets are in agreement to not enforce the limited amount of FIBA time. The Rockets give Yao a lot of freedom, and Yao likes it. Any violations of FIBA policy means that FIBA can drop the offending country/league from further FIBA events...that includes the Olympics.
Propaganda???? Dude, you need to brush up on your history. China's reputation is not a smear campaign by the U.S. govt. Some of the most messed up crap in the history of the world has happened there as far as human rights go.
wow..this is getting really heated. Can we all not get into political debate anytime the words CBA and China are mentioned? Just getting a bit tired of reading yet another debate everytime something about CBA and China shows up.
