My dad is trying to sell his car and listed it on craigslist. He has gotten 2 calls from different dealers asking to for my dad to pay some money ($250, $450 price) and they'll sell it for him. They both want my dad to drive to the dealership and talk. One guy's name is Leo Martinez from Don McGill Toyota and I'm not of the other one. Is this legit or is it a scam? Normally I would tell my dad to just not even bother, but they both work at dealerships, so I'm not sure. Thanks guys.

What is your dad selling and how much? I've been looking to buy a used car. Thanks.

Dunno what you're talking about... I just got about 500K from a deceased Nigerian prince not too long ago. All I had to do was transfer 10K of my own money for administration fee.

It's not a scam but of course they charge a fee. If it's the type of car that can sell quickly, you won't need them to help. If you don't want the hassle of meeting with someone at your house or in the middle of a WalMart parking lot to do test drives then maybe consignment is the way to go.

Okay, this sounds great then. It's a 2005 Camry, with a listed "good condition" value of $6500 on KBB. Autocheck score however, 89 (avg 80-84), so it's worth IMO around $7000. Never had a problem. It just sounded like a scam cause the guy said he could sell it for >$8000 in 90 days. What do you guys think?

Just be clear on what the consignment percentages are. I believe they're usually 5-10%. Also, figure out what they'll do for you. Are they posting it on all the car sites or just going to have it in their parking lot? If your dad is looking for another car he might want to consider just trading it in so he can take advantage of the tax breaks.
