Could we buy the PS3, return it and keep the gift card and then buy it again with the gift card and get another?
From oldest (20GB/60GB systems for the US and Japan) to newest (40GB): If you seriously want a good look at the motherboards, you can probably find better (higher resolution) pics through Google or something. I had a bunch of pics on my HDD, but I can't find them at the moment.
How does the 80gb look like? I've always wanted to see what it looks like. Btw Rc, what kind of hard drive do you reccomend for my ps3? I'm thinking of getting rid of my 80 and upgrading to like 320gb.
It is the one in the middle. That's technically the European 60GB motherboard, but it is basically the same as the one used for the US 80GB systems AFAIK. Super hi-res links just because they were easy to find: http://media.ps3scene.com/images/PS3-motherboard-PAL/PS3_motherboard_7.JPG http://media.ps3scene.com/images/PS3-motherboard-PAL/PS3_motherboard_8.JPG Are you wanting to know how big of a HDD to get, or also what kind of specs, brand, etc., to look for? The size is up to you. I think I read that 7200 RPM HDDs don't really improve performance and just make the PS3 nosier and consume more power, so you might want to stick to 5400 RPM. If you can find a HDD with 16MB of cache, that might help out with performance, although I think most/all HDDs of this type are 8MB. I'm not that familiar with HDD brands, although I'm assuming that Western Digital or Seagate might be the way to go (all else equal). You should probably check out their warranty offers and read some reviews on their products on Newegg or something.
Thanks, im just trying to pimp out my machine colorware is next! http://www.colorwarepc.com/p-99-playstation-3.aspx
Wow, you can upgrade the HD? I had no clue. I'm glad I got the 40gb. Is this a hack or does the PS3 allow for it? Thanks in advance.
they'll charge you 100 for the gift card. ive never heard of a store that allows returns on gift cards
Not a hack, and there are even instructions on how to do it in the manual IIRC. Probably right next to the instructions on how to install Linux .
Awesome. I'll read about it now. Thanks! By the way, Gamestop has the Nyko PS3 remote on sale for $9.99 right now.
This is exactly what I did. Best Buy wouldn't honor the $100 GiftCard on the 80g. So i bought the 40g, received the free $100 GC. Then exchanged the 40g for the 80g and paid for the difference with the free GC! 80 PS3 for $440 including tax!
Of course I'm always late for these type of deals...I've been driving all around the county and made about 30 calls to places for an 80GB PS3 and NOTHING anywhere I know you can upgrade the hard drive from the 40GB and I'm not that big on PS2 compatibility, but its still a benefit I'd like to have just in case I do want to play a PS2 game. My "YMMV" cost will be equal to the gift card amount at this rate so I have to stop.... Guess I'll have to wait a few months for the next deal.
I watched some regular DVD movies on my PS3 yesterday...man, what a difference the upscaling makes. Thanks again for posting the deal, JD2010.
Hmm, so it looks like I missed out on this deal (out of town all last week). I just received my Sony card in the mail (a Visa), and I want the 80G PS3. What are my best options here PS3 experts? Oh, and is that Sony card only good at Sony stores or online...as far as getting my $100 off?
