Legal action from the player's union on CP3's behalf could have an effect if a trade that in any other circumstance for any other player would have been legal is being blocked by the league and by owners not directly involved in any way with the trade. If they block this trade, how do they decide what a "good trade" for the Hornets looks like? It's funny because it seems like this is the type of issue that should have been defined during the collective bargaining agreement. I don't see how the owners expected things to change with players leaving small market teams that are not contending when they added nothing to the new agreement to stop it. But it is unfair for CP3 if he is the only star who is restricted in this way. If the trade was for Dwight Howard instead of CP3, the league would have been powerless to stop it.
Well yeah, that' because Orlando isn't owned by the NBA. Its like wondering why Cuban can vetoe any trade for Dirk but would have been powerless for a trade for Gasol
what the **** was the point of the lockout to agree on all these rules and CBA if David Stern at any point can just trump it?
Exactly. This was wrong for all teams involved. They need to compensate the Rockets with draft picks for this.
Whats going to happen now or what really happened? Check this out. Whats really the effect of this trade... http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_y...narowski_chris_paul_lakers_hornets_nba_120811
The NBA should NEVER own a franchise... EVER. This is the result. I am not a huge Pau fan, but this was a good trade for all three teams. Even us. I'm seriously bummed and I wasn't even paying attention when it was going down to get excited.
I think getting Pau was going to put a halt on Hayes' signing with Sac, as well. Hayes would have very well been a Rocket again next season. Hate to put it like that to ya'!
yeah I know... that's a big part of why I'm bummed. I wonder if he will wait to see if this all gets fixed... sigh
Stern has too much power. This is so stupid. It's not like Paul is going to stay with New Orleans at the end of the season. Can the Department of Justice intervene? This is ridiculous and inconsistent.
NBA owned the Hornets so that's why Stern can break off the deal i think...otherwise i don't think he can do anything about any trade.
This article is pretty much right. Regardless of who gets the better end of this deal, Stern and the NBA cancelling this deal was an absolutely terrible decision.
There's no way this is fixed. Stern was merely looking after the best interests of the game. Woj might as well be insinuating that refs throw games... Nevermind, fix is in. Nothing to see here. NBA=WWF
It was an interesting read. If we weren't rockets fans i think we'd probably be happy this trade did not happen. I mean nobody wants to see these superstars dictate where they get to go.
