If she dressed up like Sambo I could see this being noteworthy.

She went as Lil Wayne. Probably because she likes his music. This is very much a non-issue.

the question is, would you hit it if she's wearing the costume?

    Exactly.

It's not exactly blackface, because she's dressing up as Lil Wayne. However, putting color on your face to make it appear as you're black is too close to blackface. Period. It's not ok. Doesn't make her racist, she just didn't know or understand would be a better way to explain it.

Some black people would have a problem with, some wouldn't. I don't exactly like it, but I'm not up in arms. The chick in her photo definitely didn't.

Blackface just has too many negative stereotypes and conjures up a horrible time in American history. It'd be great if people would realize this before thinking up more costumes like this in the future, but I think it's just wishful thinking unfortunately.

She went as Lil Wayne and painted her skin black. I don't see an issue here.

    So Wayans Brothers can be

But White Chick cant be a Wayans Brother?

In real life it'd probably come across as a sad desparate attempt to fit in and be cool than something offensive.

I understand there is a bad history, but at some point you have to let go of something and stop using it as a reason to attack someone who has no ill intentions. She's probably like 19-22. I doubt many suburban white girls in that age range have ever even heard of "blackface."

And that's not a bad thing, that's a good thing!

She probably has never heard of it because it is such a non-issue these days that nobody she knows ever brought it up. So when she was picking a Halloween costume, she picked a musician she liked, went in full costume and never imagined that anyone would be offended. She actually dressed up like a REAL person, not some generic black stereotype. If she dressed in blackface, wore some big teeth and walked around with a watermelon and a crackpipe, THEN it would be time to get offended.

Could have been worse. From Deadspin today:

    http://deadspin.com/5394541/didnt-they-see-our-post-yesterday-blackface-is-not-cool

Two anonymous Flames fans provide your nebulous outrage of the day, with their full-on, bone-through-the-nose blackface getup at last night's Hockey Night In Canada game. We'll cut them a bit of a break, as it was Halloween, and they are Canadian. But HNIC host Ron MacLean got off the best line, as the camera panned to these guys during a scoreless game: "At least the costumes are offensive."

She might think Lil Wayne is scary.

Yes. Shows how shallow I am.

Who cares what a cheerleader dresses up as for Halloween. She dresses like a slut every day at work.

    To me the point is:
    1. I have an issue with a bunch of non-black folx telling black folx what should and should not offend them. Who are we to be DICTATED TOO and denegrated because we find something offensive.
    2. This whole depowering of the sterotype this a bit weird. Because racism becomes so prevalent that people don't think twice about being racist. . .well that means it is kewl and meaningless . . . .uhmmm What? Acceptance of racism means that racism is no longer an issue? Seriously?
    3. The Movie WHITE CHICKS is offensive on so many levels.
    4. Whether Lil Wayne is offended by it or not is irrelevent. I find it offense. Don't give an isht if anyone else does.
    5. This is just another. . . HERE'S WHAT THEY THINK ABOUT YOU moment
