Deckard, i'm just saying if I were lowry, I know I can go home, start, and get paid. If i'm kyle, I know brooks is the man on the rockets. If I'm lowry, I know via my agent morey lowball guys. Philly makes too much sense and he's perfect for that team.
As these players begin becoming eligible for extensions, we'll finally get an answer to the most glaring question regarding Morey's philosophy. Does he value the actual players that he found (ie: resigning them at their market value) or does he value the actual overall process (ie: letting them go and finding new hidden gems at cheap costs.)
Probably this. Of course we think 2.5-3 million is a fair salary for Lowry, he could easily make that on the open market. I'm sure he thinks he could get more and wouldn't lock himself into that rate. He has no loyalties to Houston, he's only been here half a year.
This is Lowry's 4th season. He missed most of his rookie year with a broken wrist. He's also a year younger than Aaron Brooks. We know Gersson Rosas is very high on him from a radio interview long before he was traded for.
My opinion and understanding from what has been said: First couple of days of free agency, Daryl contacts the top tier players' agents (Bosh, DWade, etc) and gauges their interest. If they are interested and contract negotiations begin then end with an agreement with the Rockets, you will see the rights to the current players being rescinded or a sign and trade worked out.
U mean like showing up at lewis house and only having mle money to offer? What about the offer ror gortat? It looks good and sounds good, but they don't even take the call if u don't mave the money.
This is also an option. But I really didn't give much thoughts into it considering that this scenario means asking Bosh/Wade to play alongside an injury-prone Yao, Landry, Hayes, Battier, Ariza, Budinger, Brooks. That's not tempting enough for them to join us imho.
You can chat with them and then if there is genuine interest. You have pieces to move or let go. This is the eventual route they are going to take unless McGrady is moved for a foundation piece this season.
Actually, on this one, I'm not going to argue. You might be right. Either way, Morey is taking a chance. I can't believe his agent, or Kyle, wouldn't have been interested in an extension. Maybe we'll find out, eventually, just what's been going on behind the scenes. Lowry was going to bust his butt no matter what. That's the kind of guy he is. He doesn't need the motivation of playing for a contract, IMO, which is one of the things I like about the guy.
I'm leaning towards your take on this one sir. It makes sense. Explains why Morey wouldn't trade Shane for expiring contracts or take any bad contracts without a real star in return for McGrady's contract.
Philly are supposed to be one of those teams losing money. They've also invested in Louis Williams and the newly drafted Holiday.
Woah? You're obviously assuming that we'll lose most of our games from here? Assuming we manage to "break even" on the season (go 41-41 - doesn't look too bad right now) - which star would NOT want to play here? Basically our offer is "we've got as much cash as anyone else, PLUS we've got the greatest bunch of role-players you could hope for - oh, AND there's this 7'6 guy who you might enjoy playing alongside" How is that not an appealing offer
I don't think there's much of a chance that he'll get to start in Philly. Lou Williams has been groomed for that position for the past couple of years, and this year they've opened the door to the PG position for him with Miller out of there. So, unless they get rid of one of the starters, their starting five looks pretty set in stone.
I almost feel sorry for our players who get "Morey"ed. They always end up getting lowballed in thier contracts. Look at Landry who is basically a Paul Milsap with less usuage. Landry is worth ALOT more that what he is being paid. Hayes is another one of those guys.
Landry received one offer this offseason from the Bobcats, and Houston matched it. I don't think the rest of the league sees the same value in our players as we do.
