First, Garner leaves off Oswalt for the all-star game, and now Oswalt's name is flying around in trade rumors. This has got to be hurting our relationship with him.
Roger is a power pitcher just like Nolan, but has the benefit of the splitter and logging less innings. He still cranks out quality start after quality start.
Mets: "We know we can fix (Astro player X)" This actually makes me less confident that Lidge can be straightened out.
ROFL! "Hi, I'm Richard Hidalgo. You may remember me from the Astros. I had a problem with my batting mechanics, so the Astros traded me away to the Mets, where Don Baylor fixed me up as new as good! ... Oh, BTW, would you like fries with that?"
Yet more from Chronicle reporter blogs! I love how Justice's blog claims that Oswalt is pissed about being offered up, and Ortiz's blog makes it sound like Roy is laughing it off. Ridiculous. Interesting, though, that Ortiz implies that Oswalt told him it will take a 5 year deal to sign him: http://blogs.chron.com/baseballblog/ Chats with Oswalt, McLane and Purpura I've already warned Roy Oswalt about the beating he will take tonight on the Astros' charter to San Diego. He knows he's going to get hammered. "I know they'll be giving it to me," Oswalt said of his teammates an hour ago. Just the other day, Roy was trying to comfort Adam Everett over the rumors that Everett would be sent to the Orioles in a trade for Miguel Tejada. As it turns out, Everett and Oswalt were in the same package that the Astros offered for Tejada. Willy Taveras, not Morgan Ensberg, was the other player the Orioles were being offered, according to a high-ranking man in the Orioles' front office. As usual, Oswalt took the news with a chuckle. "I should tell Adam that we'll room together in Baltimore," Oswalt said. Listen, Oswalt is a proud man. He just got reminded that baseball is a business. He knew the already, but sometimes it's easy to forget. I told Oswalt that former Astros closer Billy Wagner of the Mets said Oswalt would be enough to bring a championship to the Mets. I agreed with Wagner. I also told Oswalt that if he holds off until arbitration, I'll give him a great recommendation to Mets general manager Omar Minaya and vice versa. Heck, Minaya listened to my brilliant endorsements of Carlos Beltran and Wagner. My friend Ethan Wilson, a PR official with the Mets, is so grateful for the contributions of the former Astros on the Mets' roster this year, he sent my daughter Kathleen a Mets build-a-bear stuffed Animal three days ago. Kathleen calls it her Mets bear, and she told me the Mets will win the World Series this year. Laugh at the prediction if you must, but Kathleen also told Astros owner Mr. Drayton McLane that Roy Oswalt would win Game 6 of the NLCS last year. She was right then, and I'm not going to start doubting her predictions yet. Seriously, though, nothing in baseball says I love you quite like a rich contract. Oswalt is not a whiner with thin skin. He's overcome too much to be one of the best pitchers in baseball. If anything, he'll be inspired to perform and prove the Astros wrong by this latest development. On another front, don't expect Oswalt to settle for a three-year deal. If the Astros want to sign him this winter before his final season before free agency eligibility, it will take a five-year offer. That's what my sources on this front tell me, and I'm dang sure nobody is more plugged on that front, if you know what I mean. And as far as the Oswalt to the Mets rumors, don't buy them. Lidge might end up pitching for the Mets, but unless the Mets are willing to part with one of their premier players, they're not getting Oswalt. A person involved in the Mets-Astros negotiations assures us "there's nothing there" to the rumors about Oswalt going to the Mets for a prospect. Just how stupid do some of these reporters think the Astros' front office is? And yes, Mr. McLane would like Brad Lidge traded ASAP.
Taveras, Everett, and Oswalt for Tejada. I can't believe Baltimore didn't take that deal. I guess they though Oswalt would be a 1 1/2 year rental.
I'm going to tear that Jigglypuff looking fool's limbs off for even THINKING to offer Oswalt in any deal.
maybe because the deal wasn't really offered??? Of the three teams, several baseball sources say, the Astros -- offering a package centered on third baseman Morgan Ensberg and shortstop Adam Everett -- have been the most aggressive. According to several reports the Astros at one point offered star pitcher Roy Oswalt, but no deal involving Oswalt had been presented to owner Peter Angelos as of 9 p.m. on Sunday, according to a high-ranking team source, an indication those talks weren't serious. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dy...6073000404.html
Damn, I'm I the only guy who thinks this is way too much for Tejada...I would hope to god we were not that desperate, however, they would be stupid to not jump all over that...
No, we all agree that is way too much to offer. We're just saying if that was actually offered, it's hard to believe Baltimore wouldn't be all over it.
