1. I don't hate him. I just find his implicit whining annoying. He loves to trot out that take in all sorts of interviews. 2. He has been a great owner - this is the Golden Age for Astros fans. 3. I'm not disappointed that they didn't make a trade because I think they should focus on next year anyway.
I get this feeling that the Astros will go on some 6 game winning streak starting soon.... Watch the reactions if that happens.
I agree, just pointing out (for rox addict) that not everything is announced the minute the deadline hits.
I meant as if he managed to pull of a last minute deal and then he announces it later but its already over.
I understand being upset but you act like trades are easy. It isnt just us after one person you have to deal with the players team directly and the other teams who want the same guy. Also I always find free parking and there are tickets at the game for I believe 10 bucks maybe less. So not everything is so expensive.
If he's whining all the time and in all sorts of interviews, why can't you post them all? You'd think you'd be able to find an interview once a week where he complains about him losing money if he's doing it all the time.
Well, I think the Astros have missed their window. Didn't make a move to improve and make a playoff push, and didn't make a move call it quits and restock on young talent. 2 years ago, we had one of the best offensive lineups in the game but ended up with weak pitching down the stretch. Last year we had one of the best pitching staffs in the game, but an anemic offense. This year our offense is anemic and the pitching, while decent, and sometimes outstanding, has been inconsistent. Especially the bullpen. I thought if we could get Tejada, we could at least reload for next year with Tejada and Berkman being the cornerstones of a good lineup. We missed our chance when Bagwell and Biggio were in their prime and Uncle Drayton wouldn't open up for the one extra player to put us in the World Series. We missed our chance 2 years ago when Andy got hurt and couldn't pitch in the playoffs with our devastating lineup. We missed our chance last year when we ran into the hottest starting pitching imaginable in the World Series and our relievers decided to take vacation early. I almost wish we traded away for a bunch of prospects and canned the season. Reload via the farm system for young pitching and athleticism. Could have made everybody tradeable except Oswalt and Berkman. Not getting Tejada hurts, because I don't think a trade for Tejada necessarily means you have to win this year. You'd have him and Berkman locked up for a couple of years. My only hope for this year is that Ensburg's suckiness was truly due to injury and he comes back on a tear and Huff gets back to his 2 month tear before the all star break. Then we might make a run. Also, get Lidge back into the set up role to take the pressure off and pray for a turnaround. I just get the feeling that Lidge is going to continue to have a crappy season, but turn it around next year or the year after and continue his career where he left off. Many pitchers have years where they suck, but come back later strong. I think Lidge might be one of those.
Yeah I walk to the game I'm just upset right now and needed to vent...Its really hard to see them lose the way they have been losing. Call me crazy maybe I need a therapist but I just get that feeling when they lose. Yesterday that Lidge HR just drained everything out of me...Oh well maybe Next year
you mean like randy johnson in 98?? or moises alou?? come on. those teams were good enough to win...they just didn't get the job done. when you put together a team that wins 102 games, that team is very capable of winning the world series.
It's obvious. He was born after the World Series last year. But for someone who is smart enough to learn how to use a computer that fast, he sure doesn't realize that it's not just on one team to make a trade. Oh well, the more people who abandon them now will just make this forum saner.
Here's one - the Chron link doesn't work, so I have to rely on this: http://www.publiustx.net/index.php?itemid=650
it's frustrating to me because i grew up with the astros. i remember season after season of seeing the playoffs as a dream. of wishing we had a team half as good as the ones we've fielded in recent years. watching the franchise go into freaking receivership. when they won the division in 97, i went absolutely nuts. i felt they'd get killed by the braves, as they were...but it didn't matter. this was a franchise that hadn't sniffed the playoffs in over a decade at that point. this isn't hoops...or hockey...making the playoffs in baseball is a big deal. advancing often comes down to being the team with the good fortune of having your guys hot at the right time. for all the success the braves have had, they have exactly one title to show for it.
Max, been meaning to ask. Did you think we should have been sellers or buyers this time around? I would hate to concede defeat but I wanted to sell. Not Oswalt, but I'd have dealt pieces like Clemens, Pettitte, Wilson . . . to the extent that any of them had value and Clemens sure would have. I would like to see what we look like re-loaded next year. There's been a bit too much bad karma this year for a magical run.
is it just me, or is the reds bullpen looking pretty good now? heres to hoping the astros are making moves on the waiver wire
