At least they got the Geico commercials. Agree though that they along with the Cornelia Marie were the show. Wizard crew is ok, but I don't know if you can build around them. I used to love watching it, but honestly, like most reality shows, I grew bored of it.
I really didn't care for that guy simply because he initially just seemed like a boat captain and that was it. No real personality or anything. For example, Sig is a taskmaster/slavedriver. You could be on the verge of death and he'll still be pushing you to do more. I can grow to hate a guy like that. That new captain was just boring in comparison. I admit that during later episodes he started to acquire a meanstreak but that was basically because he had village idiots that couldn't count to 10 on his boat. lol. They were missing counts by a mile. Hell, Mother Teresa would've b****ed them out after that. I agree with you that the boats can be replaced, but it's the personality and quirks of the crew that are going to make them interesting to watch. It's what makes the show so popular among its viewers and in the ratings.
I'm completely the opposite. I can't stand most reality shows because I think they're just stupid. The only ones I really watch are The Ultimate Fighter, Deadliest Catch, and Ice Road Truckers (man, some of these guys must REALLY hate that one). I think I like it because it's a buncha guy bustin' their butts working and risking their lives as opposed to primped sissies posing for the typical "what dumb thing will I do next" reality show.
Um...thanks for the breakdown? I really didn't put much thought into it. I'm sure I could find a way to spin this in my direction, but I've had a long day. Now, will you answer my question?
Why? All I wanted was clarification. If you don't want people to question your brain farts, don't put them on the internet.
this is a great show. for those who say it`s the same thing over and over, well they fish. that`s what the show is about. that`s like saying all football games are the same cause the same things are happening. for those who actually like the show, this is a link to the 16th episode on the 6th season which is the tribute for Captain Phil Harris, who is my favorite on the show. http://megavideo.com/?v=057LEPSY and here is the link to all the episodes of every season. http://tv.blinkx.com/show/deadliest-catch/ZME8q58sV93rchK0#s6e16
i like all 3 of those. but haven`t really gotten into the ice road truckers, although i`ve seen it a few times. pawn stars the first 48 gangland american chopper are all pretty good.
I think "Deadliest Catch" evolved into a more character driven show really, I dont think the captains will be so easily replaced.
+1. there are few boats on there that no one really cares. time bandit cornelia marie wizard northwestern those are the boats there. it`s a shame, but 6 seasons is about the right amount of time for a show like this.
I never really followed the show episode by episode, but I did enjoy it while it was on. For some reason i get really happy when they catch a big load, and then I get really hungry, and the I go out and eat King Crabs..
Great news!!! http://www.film.com/features/story/three-deadliest-catch-captains-settle/41738243 Three Deadliest Catch Captains Settle With Discovery Sig and the Hillstrands are coming back, happy and richer. Charlie Toft, Oct 11, 2010 All is well in Dutch Harbor. Deadliest Catch will have all its familiar captains back. Late last week, disgruntled crab boat captains Johnathan and Andy Hillstrand of Time Bandit and Sig Hansen of Northwestern announced that they had mended fences with Discovery, and would be returning to Deadliest Catch for a seventh season. In late September, the Hillstrand brothers had said that they would not be continuing with the series, due to having been sued by Discovery after they refused to finish work on a planned special. Hansen followed by saying he would likewise jump ship in solidarity with the Hillstrands. King crab season begins this week for the crab boats of the Bering Sea. The trio released a joint statement which read, "We're happy we worked everything out with Discovery. A deal's a deal. We're heading up to Dutch Harbor to start filming the new season of Deadliest Catch and hopefully it will be the best one yet." The Hillstrands added that they were "looking forward" to finishing filming for the special, called Hillstranded. No terms of the deal were released, although attorney Jeff Cohen, who represents all three captains, told the Hollywood Reporter that both his side and Discovery were pleased with the outcome. It seems fair to assume that "worked everything out" means that Discovery dropped its suit against the now cooperative Hillstrands, and that all three men got a raise to continue with the show. And given that the brothers never did give a reason why they stopped work on the special, one can also infer that the entire controversy has basically been one big negotiating ploy. Hansen and the Hillstrands have additional power now as the most familiar faces on Deadliest Catch, following the February death of Cornelia Marie captain Phil Harris, and apparently worked together to flex their muscles. The last few weeks showed that these blue collar guys can play a little corporate hardball.
Hey, when you are the star of the show you got to use your one bargaining chip to get the benjamins, good for them. DD
Bad move by Discovery channel. The series has almost run its course and it will probably lose popularity very soon. Discovery should have just cut them loose and moved on to the next new thing.
Lol. I'm sure discovery knows what they are doing and making money why would you just give up a popular show? Glad to hear they are back. I wonder what other changes will take place. Cornelia Marie and phils sons? Edgar seemed like he was done with the northwestern I never watched ice road truckers but they have some of those drivers on a show on sun night driving crazy dangerous roads in India. Pretty interesting and funny
Discovery'll keep moving on. They just brought out that show where they take those ice road truckers and throw them on the streets and mountains of India to drive trucks. All of them about had a heart attack, one quit the show, another quit her route because she freaked out and the third one's about to start a fight. I was laughing my butt off. Those are roads no sane person would travel. Lol.
And of course, I just remembered that IRT and its sister show, IRT : Deadliest Roads, are on the History Channel which isn't a part of the Discovery network. So I'm off-topic all over the place.
