UGK is by far my favorite group of any genre. I was truly shocked and hurt by hearing the news. I still cannot really believe it. It seemed UGK was turning corner of getting national and widespread recognition they deserve, of course anyone worth their salt already knew of their talent. It really sucks to know that Pimp C and Bun B will never be together again. They were perfect compliments for each other.

    :(

    R.I.P. Pimp-C.

Makes me think of the one song with masta P they did way back when...

"Sittin in the ghetto thinkin bout,
all my homies that passed away..."

Pimp C was the king of the Houston rap scene. He was on a mission to get Paul Wall and Cham to stop fighting and also Slim Thug and Z-Ro. Look what happens now: right as he dies all four of those appear on a remix of Chamillionaire's "Won't Let Me Down" along with Pimp, Bun, and Lil Keke.

People listened to him. The whole "Free Pimp C" campaign built up a legend. When he finally got out, he dropped a sick cd and took the throne as the rapper in houston that everyone looked up to. Bun is going to have to take over because he is the most known old school guy. This is truly a tragedy.

Pimp was the best at making the same lines over and over sound awesome. How many times did you hear him say "Polo ***** Hilfiger" or "country rap tunes"? I loved it every time. It really makes me sad that I won't hear Sweet James Jones and his pocket full of stones ever again.

Him and Bun complimented each other so well I just hope Bun can keep up his fame (we all know he is a very hard worker) enough to keep Houston the trillest of the trill.

    RIP CHAD BUTLER

    RIP Pimp C.

    A Hip-Hop legend, H-Town legend, sad news :(

UGK is one of the only dirty south groups I really like, their last album was really good and they made many classics.

    This news shocked me.

I didnt know what to say when I heard the news. I always said UGK and Outkast were the two best groups from the south, so it was only fitting that International Players Anthem hit the way it did. One thing I always tell my boys is that I never heard anybody diss UGK, rapper or fan. They were respected in every circle. Scarface is the same way. Anyways RIP to Pimp C, one the true legends in the game.

Pimp C funeral Thursday at Port Arthur civic center

Chad Butler's mother, Mama Wes, has confirmed that the Port Arthur native's funeral will be Thursday at the Bob Bowers Civic Center in Port Arthur at 11 a.m.

Wes said she didn't know exactly how many people to expect Thursday, but anticipates, "it will be packed."

She said the outpouring of support over her son's death has been "tremendous" and "most helpful" during the difficult time.

Butler, known as Pimp C, was found dead last Tuesday in his Los Angeles hotel room. He was 33.

After the funeral, a graveside service will take place at the Greenlawn Cemetary in Port Arthur.

Side note: About a week before Pimp C died, the Museum of the Gulf Coast voted to add a display about UGK.

Looks like he died from an overdose of "syrup" or promethazine with codeine.

    Link and story:

    http://www.cnn.com/2008/SHOWBIZ/Music/02/05/people.pimpc.ap/index.html?section=cnn_latest

LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- Influential Southern rapper Pimp C died of an accidental overdose of a combination of drugs he had named in his lyrics -- codeine and promethazine, the county coroner's office ruled Monday.

The drugs are key ingredients in "syrup," a narcotic of choice in Southern rap circles that was most famously celebrated by Three 6 Mafia and Pimp C's group Underground Kingz in the 2000 single "Sippin' on some Syrup."

The coroner's office said Pimp C had sleep apnea, which causes people to stop breathing for up to 30 seconds at a time while sleeping. That illness combined with large amounts of prescription-strength cough syrup is what killed the rapper, coroner's Capt. Ed Winter said.

DJ Screw, another influential figure in the Texas hip-hop scene, died of a heart attack in 2000 after a reported overdose of codeine-laced cough syrup.

Pimp C, born Chad Butler, was 33 when he was found in his bed December 4 at the upscale Mondrian hotel in West Hollywood. The coroner's office said his body was decomposing when it was found.

With partner-in-rhyme Bun B, Pimp C was half of the pioneering Port Arthur, Texas-based rap duo UGK. The group's self-titled CD topped the Billboard charts last year. Pimp C had been working on a solo effort before he died.

    http://carey2.blogspot.com/2008/02/overdose-is-not-same-thing-as-death-by.html

Several news outlets have been reporting Houston rapper Pimp C died as a result of an 'overdose' of cough syrup. That's not actually the case. The Insite spoke directly with the assistant county coroner in Los Angeles and was the first to break the story. Ed Winter did not say Pimp C died of a drug overdose. I asked the question point blank - 'was it a drug overdose' and Winter said no. He said it was a deadly mix of Promethazine/Codeine, additional unknown issues, and a pre-existing medical condition called sleep apnea.

Now here's the problem - a person who has sleep apnea frequently stops breathing while they sleep. In some cases a person can go up to a minute without breathing with the illness. Here's problem number #2 - Promethazine/Codeine may cause severe and sometimes fatal breathing problems...Those who have sleep apnea are warned not use the cough medication. The two make a deadly mix. So while syrup has become a part of the rap culture and Pimp C even rapped about it, his death wasn't the result of an overdose but a deadly mix of the purple stuff with his current condition.

Mr. Winter said he did not attribute Pimp C aka Chad Butler's death to an OVERDOSE BUT AN ACCIDENTAL DEATH AND THE DEADLY MIX OF THE RAPPERS CONDITION AND THE COUGH SYRUP!

thats what i thought did him in. I never understood the 'lean' craze. Stuff just made me go to sleep. "lean" has taken too many good rappers.

lets not give praise to pimp c. its cool to admire his skill of rapping, if that is a skill, but his message was nothing good. just look at his name PIMP c. but just like he said "one day your here, and the next day your gone"

actually his message wasnt that bad either. Sure, slapping his b****es and slanging on the side is one thing, but thats not all he rapped about and it wasnt necessarily his "message" to go do those things...he was just describing that life style.

Pimp and Bun actually tried to get rappers to get along and stop backstabbing eachother.

    -My man Bobo jus' lost his baby in a house fire;
And, when I got on my knees that night to pray
I asked God, "Why you let these killas live,
And take my homeboy's son away?"
Man, if you got kids show 'em you love 'em
'Cause God jus' might call 'em home,
    'Cause one day they here,
'N, baby the next day they gone-
