Glad to hear you're liking it. Yeah, the winter's have been pretty rough recently. There were string a of years in the 2000s where the winter's were not very bad at all...no snow, rarely got below 40, etc. Maybe those winter's aren't coming back, but I'm holding out hope. I basically made a figure 8 around the area. Started living in Fairfax (closest I could live to the city and afford), then Arlington, Rockville, Bethesda (for 6 years!), and then Back to Vienna/Fairfax to start a family. You've chosen wisely with Bethesda/Arlington. Can't go wrong with either of those. Moving from Bethesda was tough, but affording a place with enough space to hold a family there just isn't very practical. I miss the capital crescent trail. For long distance runners, you can't beat a beautiful run down the Potomac/C&O canal, come out straight into Georgetown run down the national mall, around the capitol building and then back home. Guessing you got out to see the cherry blossoms this year?
I'm glad it worked out for you! I've been living in DC for the past 4 years and have learned to like it. I still have an affinity for the Pacific Northwest (Seattle and Vancouver) just because of their sheer beauty and the endless amounts of outdoors activity available. Also when it comes to Asian cuisine (I'm Asian), DC can't touch Seattle/Vancouver. I love the museums and the endless amount of cultural things available in DC. The food scene is growing and it's getting better but still leaves a lot to be desired. My favorite hangouts in DC are Georgetown, Adams Morgan, Columbia Heights and Dupont. In Virginia, Woodbridge, Annandale, and Alexandria. Maryland, I'd go for Silver Springs, Wheaton, and Rockville.
I am moving to DC starting this summer, around August. Great to hear some of y'alls insights, I spent a couple months there last summer as well getting acquainted. I've been in Boston for four years so the winters are actually going to be milder than I'm used to, lol.
