really though, it depends on what you interpret "keep and bear arms" to mean. In certain interpretations, nukes and bioweapons wouldn't be considered arms, or even "bearable"; nor would it be "necessary to the security of a free state."

supreme court rulings always are just tail wags dog anyway.

They decide on the public policy they want and make up the logic so it fits.

Douglas Kmiec - conservative legal scholar, often mentioned as a possible GWB court nominee himself, on the intellectual dishonesty shown by scalia and the hypocrisy of originalism:

I stand by my first impression.

I'm all for reasonable retrictions and control,...the problem is the control and restrictions have already been reasonably met...It's called the NFA of 1934...To control more and restrict more is highly suspect of "steps"...

As a gun enthusiast, I am troubled by those who feel justfied in circumventing constitutional rights,...only because it is the "evil 2nd admendment",...and since they are liberal, they are programmed to be anti-2nd and programmed to use rhetorical justification....

God Bless Ottomaton,...me and him go round and round too often, but I'm proud he thinks for himself and distances peer collectivism...He is a great ally in that regard...

Gun bans like DC's are pretty stupid (and in my opinion, just a wee bit racist). Good riddance.

I've grown out of my gun nut phase a long time ago, and I see no reason for most people to own them, but I think the 2nd Amendment DOES guarantee this right. I also think that the time I spent as a kid rebuilding old Enfields and hunting made me pretty aware of how stupid most proposed gun legislation was.

Gun bans are kind of like new abortion restrictions -- they are never as much about public safety than they are about helping a certain segment of the population incrementally ban something they really detest. I don't (currently) own any gun and I've never had an abortion, but the federal government has no business keeping people from having either.

And here we go! I say carrying them to work is next!

Lawsuit Filed To Carry Weapons In Atlanta Airport

ATLANTA — The nation's busiest airport dueled with gun rights advocates Tuesday over whether a new Georgia state law allows visitors to carry firearms at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

City officials in charge of the airport declared it a "gun-free zone" when a law allowing people to carry guns on public transit and other places took effect Tuesday. Gun rights supporters, including a state legislator who helped pass the law, quickly filed a lawsuit in federal court challenging the designation.
