And use it on Purdue Boilermaker Behemoth and Wooden Award Winner Zach Edey NBA Scouts say the Ontario Ogre has the bulk that rival hoopster, Frenchy McBeanpole lacks. Developing...?
Plan is to do just that. Then sign Nurkic and Adams to round out the front court with Boban at the wing and Sengun running Point.
Well this is a big deal for the Rockets. The Rockets get the #1 pick and they instantly become the top young team in basketball and get a player that is the highest thought of since LeBron James… short of injuries or a massive miscalculation…. He is an elite franchise player. Get the #2 pick and you get a point guard that is likely an all star and possibly a franchise player - his demeanor is a lot like Isaiah Thomas coming out of IU. #3 pick and you at least get a Glenn Robinson type. After that? It’s a toss up.
Hoping for Top 3.....but yep, it's a crap shoot after that. But first, we have to go through the coin flip of the Spurs tiebreaker to see if we'll be slotted for #2 or #3 before the lottery, correct? To determine if we're ending up the worst pick being #6 or #7? Normally, I wouldn't really care, but if Stone decides to trade the pick.....6 is better than 7.
I think this will also play a big role in the coaching search as well. The Rockets probably want to secure a top coach before the draft lottery if they can, but more than likely the Rockets as a destination dramatically changes if they land in the top 2 or 3 vs 5-7. If the Rockets strike gold, and get #1... hell... Pat Riley, Pop, and Phil Jackson might campaign to come coach here next year. Its for that reason I think Nurse, Atkinson, etc. will probably want to wait and play the delay game with the front office. So patience from the Rockets and the fans should be in order. I also think that Rockets fans if they don't get Wemby or Scoot shouldn't crap the bed because it's out of anyone's hands at this point. The fact is the best acquisition the Rockets might actually end up making is a 2nd year much improved Jabari Smith, or a 3rd year improved Sengun, etc. With the right head coach coming in this Summer, and hopefully these kids actually working with NBA level offseason development pros (which should be mandated by the Rockets) instead of going to Cancun all Summer, playing XBox, and heaven forbid finding a Kardashian to date. Even if the Rockets end up at 6, with the improvement they are likely to get anyways (hopefully) I do think we have a really fun play-in series headed our way next April with at least one of these guys taking that leap. Of course anything can happen, and we could catch whatever virus the Mavericks have now, but after seeing how goofy some of these play-in teams are, and how many teams next year will be doing what the Portland Tank-Blazers are doing again and again... I think we are in for a fun Spring of 2024 even without Wemby or Scoot or Harden, or whatever. But... the only downside to ending up at 5-7 is likely not getting the best coach available, and that putting Tillman and Stone in a position to maybe take a swing at another Silas dud hire.... which is the worst case scenario and puts that fun Spring of 2024 at risk along with the organization not mandating a Summer of development.
Walker would make us significantly better on both ends almost immediately, with all-star upside in the future. Would love to see a three-man Sengun, Jabari, Walker rotation. Great combination of passing and inside game with Sengun & Walker, outside shooting and defense with Jabari & Walker. I wouldn't take him over Wemby or Scoot, but outside of that I would have zero problems with the Rockets going that direction.
