Know you sometimes hear things @Nook, would be curious to know if you've heard something specific regarding Brooks. I for one really don't want to see another wing added to the team. If we can't find a quality rotation with Jalen, Jabari, Tari, KPJ, KMJ, Cam, Amen, or Tate then one or multiple even should be moved before we sign another wing.
we need at Vet PG that can be happy as a bench player and start when we pickup some injuries. FVV is not that and would create a lot of problems with our roster construction. There isn't many playmaking opportunities available with Sengun/KPJ/Amen all trying to get ball touches. FVV would basically mean the end of KPJ which would hurt his trade value from an asset stand point. not even mentioning that the club also already invested a first round pick on Tyty and a year of development on Nix. i would be shocked if we signed a PG to any kinds of money in excess of the MLE. money is much better spent upgrading the 4/5 spot and another wing utility defender provided we are shipping out KJM/Tate. Trade KJM/Tate + Cap space (absorb bad contract) for future draft pick Sign any 2 of the following : Johnson/Lopez/Hachimura/Kuzma/Brooks/Lowry and we are sitting niiiice.
‘Huge mistake’ for just two years? I dont want to be paying him huge money for a long deal, but I’m fine with a two year over pay to add an adult to the team.
Yes we can. FVV $40M year 1 into cap space. Lopez $25M year into cap space. Dillon Brooks S&T for Tate + Josh Christopher + SRP, starting salary can be up to $16.5M Then you’d still have the $7.5M room exception.
It seems folks still don't understand the Rockets are below the salary floor. Folks on here keep saying player X isn't worth the $. It either goes to Adam Silver or it goes to, say, FVV. Last time I checked, FVV is a much better player than Adam Silver. The main consideration is length of contract, not the $ amount.
No sir. In my opinion he is not the kind of vet we need on this team. He was never a winner and he was always the type of guy joking and playing around too much. That is not the type of influence this team needs. We need vets that have won before and know what it takes to win games in the NBA. And they still have some skill left to actually be on the court producing..
I see the Rockets have an A-list budget but looking at C-list actors. I hope the script is good at least.
thanks for explaining that. Giving up assets for Brooks makes me even more nauseous than just signing him outright.
Your GM is very enamored with Brooks - and really wants him. It is probably the worst kept secret in basketball that Stone wants to sign him. I would hope Stone doesn't overpay - but who knows.
After signing Amen, Cam, waiving Nix, removing Martin, and Tate's salaries (I'm assuming trades) Rockets would then effectively have 74.5 million to spend in FA (I'm ignoring the roster minimum cap holds as that would apply to the salaries of our signings) Starting salaries distributed from 74.5 million (on 2-year deals, with a .05% contract increase for the 2nd year) 39 (2/80) for Fred (His max) 21 (2/42) for Brook 14.5 (2/30) for Dillon + a post cap space R-MLE (2/15) for an additional free agent The money seemingly works as long as we can clear Tate's contract.
I'm still a huge NO on FVV and if we trade anyone, I hope they go to the east. I strongly think we need to pursue Tyus Jones on the Wizards, they got like 3 point guards and are doing a full rebuild.
I think we have to conclude not just Stone but Udoka. I can't image a single FA move on this team that doesn't directly go through what Udoka wants in terms of players in team building. After that, it is up to Stone to come up with the contracts that he likes to make them market friendly for trading purposes down the road for optionality.
I would say it has something to do with the Rockets trading Dillon Brooks rights away after the draft for only a future 2nd rounder, but Morey was involved in that.
Dillion Brooks, thinks he's better than he is, talks a lot of game he can't back, inefficient yet want a lot of shots. Stone is gonna prove what a trash GM he is the second we have to start building a team to actually try and win.
Dillon Brooks is such a bad idea, but I do think it has comedy value. Give me a lineup of Amen, Green, Brooks, Smith, and Sengun. Let's create the worst shooting lineup in modern NBA history.
I agree with this - the Rockets are not spending any appreciable amount on a player that Udoka does not like.
Well, lazy journalism. $1,500,000 isn't much now, but he'll want a big raise next season, so if we trade him now and get something....
