At that money you'd think Harden would strongly consider 80M/2yrs. I assume all the national pundits are getting all their sources from agents at this point. The mouthpiece of the Rockets would be someone more local like Feigen or Iko. But from what we've seen with Iko at the Athletic he clearly has been beaten into submission when it comes to verbal sparring with their national guys. I've been there. Working for my college newspaper during the 2005 Astros White Sox World Series, all the carpetbagger kids running the Sports Page who came from Jersey were like, your city doesn't really care anyways, right? **** them. The actual deals will be more favorable for us than what's currently being leaked.
I don't think the meeting with Harden is taking place, Udoka said he wants players with GOOD WORK ETHIC AND HIGH CHARACTER.
I don't think the meeting with Harden is taking place, Udoka said he wants players with GOOD WORK ETHIC AND HIGH CHARACTER. Going to Vegas during the playoffs and distancing himself from the coach after the team lost game 7, removes Harden from the list.
Goal is same as signing Lopez and which other vet, to let the kids grow in a competitive, winning environment and learn from players who know how to win. Fvv will be a backup and Lopez will be in a retirement home by the time the Rockets are contending again, when all the kids are 25-30 in 4 to 9 years. But before then these vets who have won championships can teach the kids how to get to that level, not in terms of skill, but championship level preparation and habits ie culture - Udoka can’t do it himself.
I can only laugh at Dillon Brooks who would probably play 1 year of good boy and then his detrimental side will come into full effect. Just play KPJ at the wing position .....get Conley or someone in that mold
Fvv is one of the best players in the league according to every advanced metric that measures winning. Please don’t listen to the dd and reekos who only look at shooting %. He is worth every penny.
Patrick, I know you come here. PLEASE NO DILLON BROOKS. For the love of God please don't sign Dillon Brooks.
A. You need a starting caliber point for the next two years while Amen develops B. You have to spend money C. You want to add impactful vets than can help you win but don’t require a long term contract that will impact your long term plans D. Who cares if you overpay for a good player for two years when you have to spend money E. No one is walking through that door and taking us to a championship next year
The goal is to let the young ones learn good habits......but that is debatable. I for one think if the Heat can turn undrafted players into productive vets the Rockets could do so too but that is a very long shot without Eric Spoelstra, Pat Riley and Mickey Arison. The alternative would be to overpay vets or lock down Ime for 5+ years but Fertitta is too impatient for that. It is a risky deal for Ime but he is on redemption tour after the secks scandal.
My original excitement for this offseason has ebbed a bit. Stopgap contracts while the kids grow up. So, hopefully the kids learn and learn well.
Amen would start off at backup pg and best case if he really outperforms as a rookie he could start at SF and run the point while fvv plays a more off ball role which he is terrific at. That’s another advantage of fvv, his game is scalable to different roles - on or off ball (unlike Harden). For people asking why not give that money to Harden then: fvv is a system player, with Harden you need to build a system around him (heliocentric). With either player they will be long over the hill by the time the team is contending, so with Harden you are back at square one once he is done, while with fvv the system will still be here, just need to plug in another player.
Not sure who the Rockets are targeting but my priorities would be to find a starting caliber PG and shore up the Center rotational minutes. Top targets would be: PG's 1. FVV 2. Jevon Carter 3. Gabe Vincent Centers 1. Brook Lopez 2. Poeltl 3. Naz Reid 4. Mo Bamba (if all others failed) Not targeting any forwards or wings as we have enough of those on the roster already.
I’d guess they start with the UFA then if they strike out move to the RFA. FVV or Lopez seem like most likely first meeting. PG 1. FVV 2. Austin Reaves RFA Wing (my preference is let current roster fight it out for SF minutes unless you are trading away KMJ and/or Tate) 1. Dillon Brooks 2. Grant Williams RFA 3. Cam Johnson RFA Center 1. Brook Lopez 2. ??? I’d be kinda disappointed if Lakers weren’t forced to match the arenas rule max for Reaves to screw them in years 3&4. Ideally FVV 2 years 70-80M Lopez 1 year ~$25M
1. **** no to Van Fleet for max. 2. Lol at KJ martin's contract 1.5 mil per year eating our cap space. Just say you don't want him
we can’t realistically pay all 3 on 2yr deals, barring a KPJ salary dump. We should prioritize Lopez and FVV.
