there are a couple plays in this video that show he has plenty of speed to be a modern QB

To me there’s a difference between the ability and what you actually do. He looks to pass first, run only if needed.

Bill Walsh said he looks for two things a qb. Intelligence and toughness. Watsons running ability and Mahommes arm separate them from the pack. I believe Watsons first start was on Thursday Night. It was against the Bengals. HeHe took vicious hit, looked dazed. I still remember his sitting on the turf . He ran like a 70 yard touchdown the next play

This is the point. Watson is a tough mofo. So are Brady and Rodgers and Wilson. One of those guys has no where near the talent as the other four

Mills looked tough and when Carolina went prevent he drove the Texans down the field easily. When he gets more reps he won't need as much time in the pocket

@Fulgore the play at 2:27, you think he looks slow there?

Lumbering. This highlight shows some decent speed

I don’t know what to tell you man. They look similar in their movements. Bigger guys look slower. He didn’t look lumbering at all in that video, he literally outran a D1 corner to the sideline lol

One thing about his lack of experience is how crazy fast the NFL game must seem to him. The thing that’s keeps me optimistic is that he doesn’t throw too many dangerous passes under pressure, turnover mitigation could be one of his intriguing potentials. Obviously he doesn’t have physical ability of Watson, Lamar, Kyler but there have been plenty of really good quarterbacks that made great careers mastering game management.

Also, he absolutely isn’t a burner. But neither is Watson or Herbert. They’re fast for QBs.
Watsons long speed isn’t good, his quickness and acceleration is great.

not the foot speed for sure, but he’s made some extremely athletic plays. The ones that stick out to me most is the jump man play vs Jacksonville and that pass v the Eagles where he broke three tackles. Either way Mills doesn’t compare to any of them lol

Just like Trevor Lawrence and Zach Wilson, against the texans only had a good drive then garbage stats, when they were already losing 34-7 in the 4th quarter. Trevor against Denver, the first drive was nice, then, he sucked, and WIlson have 4 ints in a game.

And those were NFL-ready QBs, and drafted to be the face of the franchise from game 1.
Mills wasnt drafted to be the franchise QB from game 1, he is a project, with nice skills.

I agree with you but Watson isn’t close to those other two.
Allen is probably a better comp for Watson

Mills looked better than Wilson, Lawrence and Fields in his game and a half

Doesn’t mean he’s going to be, it will all play out how it’s supposed to

He has nice footwork, he evaded some pass rush, he read his progressions well, so he didnt lock in one receiver (he did it in the TD) he looked great in the short-intermediate passes, but he needs to work on long passes downfield, he needs more connection with his receivers.

I guess each fan will have his interpretation of things. Would love to see some All 22 to get a better feel since we dont know the plays and assignments. His footwork is ok. He is definitely a pocket passer and if he's asked to improvise he breaks down. On that TD I actually thought it was the 2nd receiver in that progression - which is cool, but the dude WAS wide open. All his TDs have been pretty much "gimmes".

Chemistry is real I agree. I feel its up to the QB to lead his WRs and make them adapt to him and not the other way around. He had a good thing going with Cooks last night, but he just seemed so unsure of himself that he would rather make those routine "smart" plays VS letting it rip.

I'll be looking for these things specifically in the next game - thanks!

There's a natural tension between Culley and his staff acting in self preservation by not having Mills throw it a lot, and the best interest of the franchise/Caserio which is finding out what you have in Mills quickly.

The FO and the coaching staff need to get on the same page ASAP.

He’s doing better than these highly drafted rookies right now

I can only assume that everybody that has written off MIlls already has done the same with every other QB taken in this draft...with the possible exception of Mac Jones. This entire QB class is a bust after 3 games?
